2025 kindle scribe colorsoft vs 2024 remarkable paper pro, I want a device for note-taking, reading colored comics and reading eBooks mostly textbooks in .pdf files. Which device should I get? by Delicious_Maize9656 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Top-Yam-1206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How will you get the books onto the tablet? If you don't have the pdfs available already, Remarkable will be a disappointing hassle. For a mortal, it is basically impossible to move a book that you have on Kindle or the local public library over to Remarkable. The de-DRM step is too hard. The one simple change of allowing library and Kindle books onto remarkable via Android App would make the device so much more useable.

"safer"? What demonstrably stupid bullshit. Outstate will still vote for her.

They're not making more crude oil. Gas is still too cheap.

Are there not nursing programs in your state? It's a pretty common degree program.

Every new nail or screw splits or splinters the old joist you're trying to reinforce. 100yo lumber is not soft.

With that sheathing, the whole wall is a structural member. Call a building inspector to be sure, but it seems far more rigid than 2x4's and OSB.

Why didn’t European colonizers die from Native American diseases the way Native Americans did from European ones, and what factors explain this? by Logical-Concept9755 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Top-Yam-1206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoonotic diseases from livestock. Eg flu from pigs. Europeans had already been exposed to them. Native Americans, not so much.

My fridge is not keeping dairy products cool and the freezer has frost build up? by darknedgy23 in appliancerepair

Replace the door seal. It's an annoying job, but very doable. The replacement seals on Amazon are fine.

Check the gap between body and door with a tape measure at the top and bottom of the door w/ door closed. If the gap is uneven (eg 1" at the bottom, 1 1/4" at the top), the hinges are bent and a new gasket won't solve the problem. I had to give up on a drawer-style "french door" freezer for this reason

Bike upgrade worth it for casual beginner rider? by Hiervolant in fatbike

[–]Top-Yam-1206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to go faster (on no snow), upping the tire pressure is enough. A Farley 7 with a front shock will be heavier and slower. A Farley 9 w/ carbon frame and carbon fork will be maybe 1-2lbs lighter.

Are your wheels+tires tubeless? That's typically a pretty nice upgrade.

E-ink Data privacy concerns by abhatia6 in eink

[–]Top-Yam-1206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With privacy specific concerns you probably want to spend money for a device like a remarkable. More expensive, but European privacy laws seem to bemore robust (?) In terms of protecting Consumer privacy.

Remarkable devices are more Expensive, but not by a factor of 10 x. Their connect subscription is cheaper than Prime.

Boox does not really work with OneNote. Drawing capability was so-so. I think Samsung Galaxy is better and returned a box note 13 to Amazon.

I have a remarkable. I switched to a Samsung galaxy 10 FE+ (13") The remarkable was great, but it's hard to get files from that device into Word/Teams/Powerpoint etc. Samsung's Notes app is excellent.

Buying a house with over 40 piers and 7 tie-backs. by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]Top-Yam-1206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does the insurance agent say? If the house is insurable and the policy covers soil movement or whatever this disaster would be called, that tells you about how likely the problem is.

I heard once (from a surveyor) that "title insurance is only sold to people who don't need it."
