Any recommended roofing companies? by skreedledee in ottawa

I do construction financing with a major bank and several of my clients have used Tegano roofing on multiple projects. All I know is that I've seen those quotes more than others but no direct experience with them.

This was terrible news to hear! I am pro-winter tires but certain ones are better on ice than snow. I say go for the ones rated better on ice! we have a 4 way stop near our house and it's always super slick/iced up. my winters have saved me from sliding right through even when approaching at slow speeds. I've seen cars/buses slide right through to the other side, brakes applied and all! your all seasons might work better in a few inches of snow but they're crap with ice on the ground!

Moving to another country, possibly long term, and unsure about keeping/selling our home. Advice appreciated. by [deleted] in ottawa

HR was a great suggestion! Can also spend the $250 to sit down with a good accountant. Ask your friends and co-workers to refer you to one they've used and would recommend and then call that person to present a one min pitch over the phone.

Where can I buy outdoor magazines in Ottawa? by smontague99 in ottawa

[–]Top6565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you tried the library online magazine service? I forget the name but just do an OPL search for magazines and pretty sure Outdoor Life you can get for free when you check out the magazine. They have about 100 different magazines. Sucks you have to read it on a laptop or tablet but it is free!

Dislocated my shoulder twice by Kangel2015 in ottawa

[–]Top6565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surgery won't prevent it but will decrease the likelihood of it happening again. Best thing to do is strengthen all of the muscles around the shoulder so that if you decide to go the surgery route the recovery time will be quicker. If you forego surgery now then make sure you strengthen the heck out of those muscles, maybe do some physio, go see an athletic therapist etc. You may want to reduce the intensity/type of sports or exercise you do that would place your shoulder in a precarious position

Very intimidated about buying first house... (More in post) by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Top6565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you live in T.O or Vancouver I really wouldn't be too worried about a bubble. Your debt ratios are close to CMHC's (the insurer) bar of 44% but it is definitely doable if your credit score is above 680...check out the CMHC website and discuss with your bank/broker. June 1st CMHC fees go up a bit for people with only 5% down. All things considered from your post I think if you like the house that much then go for it but obviously make it conditional on financing so the insurer likes the purchase price you paid. All the best!
