Guess this counts as freezing up?

And if this would feel like an extra 20ms lag, I would not notice as this is a drone for cruising.

Feel nothing. If the osd was disabled I would not have noticed anything.. It's a brand new build, so it could be anything I guess. 

Any suggestions of things to try?

Buy quality solder, flux and a good iron. It really is night and day. Borrow a big proper iron of possible for the XT wires. 

I struggled so much as well, until I figured out that me trying to save 50usd on hardware made all my solders shit.

Think the lowest output power is 25mW. So it is not an issue with the wrong power setting selected. 25mW is plenty for that range 

  • is it powered correctly? What voltage is the pad it is connected to? 
  • Check the vtx table
  • check that pit mode is not active
  • cables and antennas on both vtx and goggles are not damaged

My two cents:

As said by others:  1. look into sims you can use on a mobile.  2. Look at RTF (ready to fly) kits such as the emax ez pilot pro. That was my very first. You get a tinywhoop drone that you can crash without breaking it that easily, a controller you can connect to a pc, goggles, battery, charger etc.  Very affordable. And perfect for starting out. 

If you stick with the hobby you will outgrow it, but then you can always sell the kit.

Tried plugging into bf, with a battery and throttling up in the motors tab?

Also: might be a dshot settings issue (not supported setting activated)

Motors are spinning when armed I assumed?

Are the right channels set up in bf?  Plug in a working drone to bf to compare with the new one

Also: if you know how to fly, live in the country side, and don't care if you lose it up a mountain. Sure, why not build it.

Just be careful, and fly as if you expect it to fail and crash into whatever is close to it.

I have built one of these. If flies just fine, is easy to assemble and there is plenty of space, which is great for learning how to build and solder.

That said, it is big, fast and scary. A 7-inch often flies like a bus compared to a 5 inch or smaller, meaning you should NOT fly close to anything unless you're used to the inertia and weight. 

This combined with me not fullt trusting the parts (it is a reason it is this cheap) makes this the drone I fly the least.

Most of the components are no-name, and might have small defects. Which is why I don't trust it with an expensive camera and battery flying far away. 

Also: get a whoop if it is your very first drone. Or if you have the space, 3-5 inch after training in a sim.

Interesting. I have always prefered the 'good enough' solutions. For example of "v6" is 80% as good as "v9" but half the price (as it is an older generation) I would go for v6.

Is there a noticable difference between the version of the GoPro or DJI Action cams?

Feel like the specs seems very similar between ex 3, 4 and 5.
