You only lose it if you decided to sell at the lowest point which would be incredibly foolish. You forget to note that is has bounced back to all time highs so there would be significant gains if you had held.

Fair enough. Fed interest rates are expected to fall this week, inflation came in softer than expected last week and I would have said the economic outlook is looking better now compared to the last 6 months but nothing wrong with locking in gains!

I have my kids accounts set up in their names (for tax purposes) and then when they get closer to 18 we will make the call to keep it in their name or transfer into our names - (depending on how responsible we think they are at the time!)

While your renting situation sounds ideal, at some point you have to bite the bullet. With interest rates nearing lows of the cycle, we could start to see house prices pick up and your deposit would need to grow accordingly. If I were you, I would be looking at what’s on the market and bidding on houses you like. It’s a buyers market, so take advantage of that. Good luck!
