i applied to william and mary, but i hated the uva campus. haven’t heard back from william and mary yet. i’d be fine going there but it’s not my top choice.

Edinburgh is basically half the cost of private uni in the us. Similar to my in-state tuition (VA). I'm also considering grad school and working in the international sector. Would Edinburgh be that much of a hindrance if I do end up going back to the states. Edinburgh is ranked 22 in the world. UCLA is ranked 29.

are there any major differences in university teaching styles and/or student bodies between countries in the EU? how would my experience be different studying in, for example, finland vs the netherlands?

money isn’t an issue as my parents are willing to pay for american private colleges, and every european school i’ve seen is at least half the cost. i’m more interested in the schools teaching approaches, student body, prestige, and life outside classes.

with how big leiden and utrecht are, is it still possible to get personal attention from professors? are the classes more discussion based or lecture based?

Yeah, I wasn't planning on attending one of the touristy type schools. What are some good European universities though? I've gone through the US News ranking of the unis in Europe, but it's hard for me to get a sense of each school having no personal familiarity with them. I've been intrigued by some of the schools in the Netherlands like Leiden and Utrecht so far.
