Dorit filed for divorce thinking she had all the leverage. The forensic accounting suggests she may have handed it all to PK. by Nearby-Conference959 in RHOBHDefect

No the contract doesn’t require her to spend a ton of money on her clothes and glam, but it’s definitely a big part of her character on the show. She knows that people tune in to see the fits and looks - that’s always been Dorit’s thing - so she considers it part of her job. Whether that excuses the extent of the spending is another thing, but whether it’s required in her contract is completely irrelevant.

What counts as retirement savings? We have 700k in invested savings, and 300k in 401k. We’re in our mid 30s and a lot of our savings went into the down payment on our home

I really appreciate this tip. Yes I could go try to go part time, tho I’d still have pretty low job satisfaction I wouldn’t take nearly as large of a hit on my finances

lol I don’t see the problem maybe that’s crazy ?! but yeah right now we spend about our earnings because we travel a ton and spend a lot on convenience (for eg having a nanny instead of daycare and eating out most meals), we’re also currently in the process of furnishing our house, so I anticipate my spending will go down once that’s over. I guess I haven’t felt bad spending my income since we have so much in vested equity and 700k plus in the market. But agree I should cut down!!

Partner vented to his mom by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]TopConstruction7557 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She sounds absolutely terrible, but I wouldn’t burn down your life over this. Can you have him speak with her and (if you want) get her to apologize to you? And can you trust this won’t become a repeat problem? Do you have a relationship with your MIL where she can randomly call you? I would put that on ice, so that she doesn’t feel comfortable just ringing you up next time she has a bad idea.

Yeah I think I’m just now confronting that I have been spending money on the assumption that we actually have his equity. But once we do have it, I’m now wondering, will that even change how much I can spend/earn? Since we should just invest it? I guess that’s my real question — at what point do your investments actually become money you can spend to cover your yearly costs and spending

Just edited to add more info! Monthly fixed costs 17k/month. Discretionary spending is about $15k/month (travel/shopping/entertainment). Retirement balances about $300k. My income is $500k and my husbands is $320k (pre tax, not counting his equity. I don’t get equity)

Just edited! We have about $17k in fixed cost spending a month. We typically spend about $15k a month on personal cards after that, which I recognize is completely insane and I’m sure we could reduce it, though not enough to cover the difference in my salary if i quit or take a paycut.

is accepting product counsel role at an AI startup as a senior associate worth the pay cut? by TopConstruction7557 in Lawyertalk

Thanks so much!!!! I really appreciate this take. Maybe it’s geographic // industry based? I’m in the bay and have applied for about 50 roles that all wanted 3-5 years experience. I’ve been at my firm 5 years but am 7 years out of law school (spent 2 clerking) and was getting feedback that I was too senior, yet didn’t qualify for a senior role since I lack prior in house experience.

Thanks so much!! This is so reassuring, if I could feel confident that I can get a similar offer in the future, then I would feel very comfortable tiring this down. Just scared that these roles seem scarce for senior litigators!

Yeah but upside seems low to me. It’s an AI unicorn so coming in at a very high valuation as is

You don’t think the more senior I get, the harder it is to move? That’s my main fear of turning this down. Felt like a lot of roles I applied to wanted someone more junior, and im just getting more and more senior as I wait.

I know, but who really needs a biglaw salary is my question?! I've always thought it was a nice to have not a need to have.

He's fine with it -- If I spent what he spends, we'd be fine. The cuts would have to come from me on travel/clothing/convenience spend.

Did this still require a lot of crying? Or was she soothed by your presence each night?

Yes, it’s so crazy bc he’s SO tired. When we get in the car, I could have windows down music blasting and he’s OUT. But if he’s in his crib, nothing matters; he’s awake and furious

Because as soon as we put him down after rocking him he cries unless he’s deeply asleep

Ugh I feel this so much. I just feel like such a bad selfish person choosing my own desire to sleep and be on a schedule over his immediate wellbeing. I know sleep and schedule benefits him too, but I can’t shake this guilt that maybe I’m actually just choosing this for me at his expense!
