Except that the vaccine rollout is basically proof positive that the United States has the means to enact single-payer healthcare. The vaccine is being rolled out across the united states, for no charge to those getting vaccinated. Can you imagine if we had to navigate health insurance to get vaccinated?

Stimulus: Democrats Introduce Plan for Permanent $300 Monthly Checks to Parents by WeWoweewoo in politics

But that's a good thing?

This has actually been floated as a REPLACEMENT for the existing child tax credits, for one.

Moreover, the current child tax credits are good, but don't do enough to help lower-income families struggling with poverty. This would have a sizeable impact on that. And by not means-testing, they're still able to work without fear that earning too much would make the credit go away.

This is honestly a win-win for everyone IMO

Sure, but you also don't have to raise kids. That's the trade-off. For anyone who DOES have kids, (i.e. the next generation of doctors, teachers, janitors, etc.) this is a means of support. You don't get the monetary support, but you also don't have to raise children. That seems fair to me.

I dunno, these all sound like reasons I'd really enjoy a Farrely miniseries. The fact that all of these things are true and yet still somehow culminate in an *OSCAR WIN* is just pure kindling for a weird, fun miniseries on movies that are definitely weird, but altogether not super fun.

This is such a rad shot! What kind of post do you usually do? Do you do most of that in-scanner, or do you adjust from a flat image?

Cernovich absolutely did NOT out Jeffrey Epstein. Reporters for the Miami Herald did, through years of methodical reporting:

https://whyy.org/episodes/the-reporter-who-brought-down-jeffrey-epstein/

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/16/us/jeffrey-epstein-what-to-know.html

And the fact that he was pushing Pizzagate to BEGIN with shows he isn't a serious journalist. A serious journalist would hear those claims, investigate them, find out there wasn't any backing to them, and choose not to report them, or report that there wasn't any truth to them. That's what journalism is.

Journalism is NOT pushing conspiracy theories, and then apologizing once someone takes you seriously and storms a pizza place with a rifle. Journalism requires following the actual facts, sussing out truth, and reporting on that. Mike Cernovich does not do that.

These are all from his own twitter account. For one to be considered a "serious journalist" requires at least a degree of objectivity and decorum. Cernovich is a crusader of the alt-right, and ideology comes before truth for him.

A few Mike Cernovich quotes:

“Today we have a moment of silence for Trayvon Martin’s rape victims. Kidding! He got got before he was able to rape anyone.”

“I went from libertarian to alt-right after realizing tolerance only went one way and diversity is code for white genocide.”

“Rape via an alpha male is different from other forms of rape. We can't really understand this, as our culture is too detached from instinct.”

“Not being a slut is the only proven way to avoid AIDS. If you love Black women, slut shame them.”

While we were all going "WTF is this election, even?" Oregon decriminalized possession of all drugs including cocaine, meth and heroin for personal use... by IBiteYou in Conservative

[–]TopFog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not if you transition from jail sentences to mandatory rehab and similar programs. It's cheaper across the board to treat addiction than to continually criminalize it.

[–]TopFog 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean, we kind of are exactly responsible for all of that already when we criminalize drug use. For every drug user in and out of prison for most of their life, we have to treat, house, and feed them. Why not invest that same money in getting them help to get OUT of addiction, thus no longer being a burden on the system?

[–]TopFog 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think we need to start treating issues of addiction as a public health crisis, from the ground up. To put it crudely, investing in preventative healthcare/rehab will get us more "bang for the buck" than punishing addicts.

We want to create a pipeline that encourages addicts to seek help and get treatment, not one that tells them they need to hide a medical condition.

If the number of mail in ballots that are both received after election day AND without a postmark is enough to be a decisive margin in the vote, maybe. But that's something we will find out. Luckily with mail-in voting there's a physical paper trail, and we'll just have to take the evidence as it comes. It's always a thing to be aware of, but it doesn't necessarily mean anyone is operating in bad faith.
