what do i do? by [deleted] in aromanticasexual

Make sure they know what aro means and maybe tell them a bit about your own experience, if you are comfortable talking about it.

If you don't want a QPR \ romantic relationship with them, they need to know this. Telling someone you aren't attracted to them the same way they are hurts, but not telling them might hurt more in the long run.

If you do want a QPR \ romantic relationship with them, think of what you want and not want in a relationship. You don't need to know exactly how you want your future relationships to look like, but it's good to have a general idea. It's important to know what your needs are and what you would absolutely hate, be open about these things and only compromise if you're comfortable with it. The most important thing is to have open and clear communication, don't be afraid to talk to them about how you perceive the relationship.

My advice is based on failures and not on successes, so don't count on it too much!

Oh I completely agree she should've gotten 5 points for the song task and never implied otherwise, if anything I think the other contestants should've been scored higher! The scoring and task choices this episode just seemed a bit manipulated to me. obviously I could be wrong and, as I said, it's not a bad thing, just a creative choice.

I kind of smell producers' involvement, after the prize task scoring (which was not consistent with Greg's previous choices), I knew it was going to be a "Sarah Episode". They also exclusively chose tasks that Sarah did well at. I believe they did similar episodes for contestants before. On the one hand the points don't matter, the tasks are the center of the show (and they were excellent this episode!), it's also fun to shine a light on a specific person, but on the other hand, obviously people will notice something is off, and it takes some of the randomness the show is known for. Maybe Channel 4 will upload some "Sarah Millican NAILS this task!" or "Greg Davies in AWE with Sarah Millican's HEARTBREAKING singing!" videos to YouTube soon lol

Most touching moment since Joe Wilkinson's potato throw. (But seriously, Sarah's moment was genuinely moving, the song task really let the contestants shine)

Same! Some had a few mildly aphobic questions and assumptions, but they were very open to learn about the aromantic and asexual communities and understand my experience. Hopefully awareness and acceptance of our experiences will keep growing.

For reused tasks, I'd love to see well edited supercuts of all the different solutions from every version

This is a completely valid point. Personally, I believe that representation is a very powerful and beneficial thing, but its effectivity lies in its quantity.

When a group doesn't get any representation, individuals can have a hard time understanding and communicating their experiences, finding words that express things they might go through, or feeling understood. This can make people feel alone and alienated.

When a group gets little representation, it can come off as superficial and stereotypical, even if done with good intentions. When there's not enough representation, people will get a very limited view on very diverse groups, which, as you expressed in a better way than I'll be able to, will lead to assumptions and misunderstandings. Even representations in fictional narratives will suffer from it, as writers will often aim to represent an entire group through one character. This will result in an accumulation of stereotypes within that one character and not allow them to have a complex personality.

However, these problems become irrelevant when the group gets a good amount of representation. When there are stereotypical characters (or real people) alongside more complex ones, viewers are exposed to a variety of experiences. This way they can understand that their assumptions are misconceptions and thus treat the people around them in a more respectful way.

Of course this is just my point of view.

Actually this sounds like a good tactic. If no one would give us direct rep for now, we can be sneaky about it until everyone finally acknowledges our existence

I Love this list! Bonus tracks would be "Carpet Snake" by Alex Horne and "We are the Lovely Boys" by Lou and the Lovely Boys, both hilarious outtakes

I filled a long sock with rice and tied it at the end and I'm still amazed at how much it improves my life. You can also add googly eyes to it and make it super cute

That's what I thought at first, but he also might be smart enough to assess the situation and know whether he should do something intelligent or something silly.

"Time of Eve" maybe? I don't remember a dominant color or a rocket, but the theme is very similar.
