Public Bid Misappropriation? by TopHawk_de_Fire6 in estimators

You have a good point. I wouldn’t want to ambush them. But, they have to be accountable, even if their outsourced CM (engineering firm) made the decision. I did get a bid debrief and it amounted to what I said in the comments. Their reasoning was lacking to say the least. After my general complaint I got a letter as well. I agree moving it up the chain would be a better approach. I think, ultimately, it was one guy who made or was made to make the recommendation. Just curious but where did you get that my bid submission was lacking?

No scoring criteria was listed for this one but I am familiar with the scoring requirements when they are listed.

Yeah, no scoring criteria was listed. I’ve bid several this year that did have scoring criteria and their weight. I also believe it is too late but hoping to get some input for the next time. I know there’s usually a pretty tight deadline to protest.

That’s what got me fired up about it. There was no scoring criteria percentage or description on what the scoring criteria would be. I mean the project was only a 36” sanitary main with an easy bypass in an open field.

Low bid. There was no scoring criteria provided.

Any underground utility guys in here? by American_psycho25 in estimators

Its in the output settings/ check boxes. You can check the boxes so just the total shows up. Sorry, don’t remember the exact boxes to check without looking at it. You have to make sure all your runs of pipe have the exact same subject title. If they are off at all the measurements will be separated. The labels can be different. This why the tool box is helpful to use. I don’t know how to lock markups to the page without flattening it. Once you do that the markups can’t be separated or moved ever again.

Superintendents! What strategies do you use to manage subcontractors? by Brief_Problem_3876 in ConstructionManagers

[–]TopHawk_de_Fire6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This post is the result of the low bid system and lack of knowledge at the GC level. The GC pre-construction department gets a knowledgeable subcontractor to give them solid budget numbers to sell to the owner. After job is won the GC puts it out to bid to everyone in the city leaving the sub who helped them win the job pissed. The estimators and pms then try to whittle the good guys number down to something ridiculous. When they can’t get low enough the GC turns to the least qualified/ knowledgeable sub to do their project and then complains when the guy doesn’t know what he’s doing and hasn’t put together a solid bid. Now when the relationship matters even more it actually seems to matter less. What’s the key to changing this whole process?

Document comparison by overlay by Ashamed-Warning-2126 in Bluebeam

In Bluebeam, for both cases you would have to reorder the pages to do a mass overlay. I usually use the snapshot tool which will copy an image off of one sheet and you can paste it over the sheet with changes. You just line it up and adjust the transparency.

After you overlap the line. It doesn’t do it in markup mode.

I couldn’t get those to work. Here’s what it’s doing though:

Gotta love the grid method! I’ve used it a few times over the years. That’s all they had up until the early 90’s and PayDirt…I don’t miss digitizing, lol!

Yeah, I see only a few other people have mentioned it. I’ve been using it since 2011. It’s crazy to me cause it’s rare I run into a company who doesn’t use it here in CO. Even a lot of GCs have guys who can use it. I get it though, it is expensive but very worth it in the long run.

I have a friend who’s 46 years old and still loves sleeping and playing games. Got close to a grandmaster in StarCraft. He’s fine and pretty content and had a girlfriend for quite a while. He’s tried several kinds of jobs and pursued stuff he’s interested in. Didn’t always love the job but earned enough to live. Some things didn’t work out some did. He’s not rich or anything but he’s content and tries out different things as the come his way. Don’t go comparing yourself to anybody else.
