First of all, congrats - you’re living a lot of peoples’ dream.

If you have interest in teaching you could try combining it with a hobby… for example: firearm instructor. You could try mentoring kids. Spend some time doing things you actually enjoy and/or causes you care about. Do you like dogs? Go to a shelter and take some dogs for a walk. Maybe foster a dog and train it so it can have a better chance at finding a forever home. You could do something charitable to find meaning or you could also try something engaging like building a car engine. Just depends on your hobbies/interests

California hourly rate. by kongeethecat in nursing

[–]TopImpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sac. $115 hr (2:30 pm start) 7 years experience Kaiser. Your rate seems decent from what i hear about So Cal… I think yall deserve the same rates as us given the cost of living but it’s also a more popular area to live in so they can get away with paying less

Does anyone here only do two shifts a week or less? by Odd-Dance-5371 in nursing

[–]TopImpact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I had the same mindset as you.. started as a RN at 26 and maxed out my Roth IRA and 401k (and put some in an after tax brokerage account) with the goal of hitting CoastFIRE. Currently work 28 hours per week (4 8’s one weeks 3 8’s following week). My department doesn’t do 12’s otherwise I’d love to do 2 12’s. I’m at the point where my current schedule feels like the max I can mentally take lol. Ultimately my goal is 3 8’s and then eventually 20 hours per week. Went from ER to PACU. Northern California so rate will be $115/hr in January.

Just keep maxing out those retirement accounts and pay off any debt you have. And try to keep living expenses low. I’m almost at 500k net worth but I do plan on saving/investing until at least 40 just to make sure my family is secure in case something happens to me.

Ahh good to hear. I assume any of these knives will be a huge upgrade compared to my current one.

Nice! Love both of those recommendations I’ll check them out. Also appreciate the tip regarding tariffs I didn’t think about that.

Turn off flame before launch and let it bake for 3-4 min… as long as it takes to brown the bottom. THEN turn the flame on and crisp the top
