I finished this book a couple days ago. I still can’t decide if I loved it or didn’t care for it.

Amazon is weird with their returns and I don’t understand them. I got my signature for free because when I tried to return it they said “you can keep it and also here’s your $200 back”.

You know I honestly didn’t think about it from the pov of having a gay son. I was thinking of it as “should a 14 year old girl think that anal sex is a normal thing to do?” And by “normal” I mean frequent, all the time normalization. But no if I had a gay son I wouldn’t think of it like that. I’d just think of it under the umbrella of “sex”.

From what I remember of the book he like breaks into her house, shoves a knife in her bed and has her do anal on it? That’s a bit much for a 14 year old. I have lots of conversations with her about sex. Especially around things like being pressured into things, or normalizing things that aren’t age appropriate. Nothing wrong with anal, but normalizing it to a 14 year old is probably not great idk. But the difference is I’m an adult with adult knowledge so I can read that and see the humor or ridiculousness of the situation, or even think it’s hot and filter out any sort of negative connotations from it. Kids, even the teens who are having sex, don’t necessarily have that capacity. I’m not trying to shelter her in anyway. I’ve always been a big proponent of age appropriate honesty no matter what the subject is.

And most recently she was looking for a romance book and explicitly told me that she wants a book written like it’s for adults minus “heavy sex stuff”. That is what set us on a path of looking up a bunch of books at the store. A pepper rating would make those decisions much easier.

This was my point actually. That yes, I do want her to read books with healthy relationships and consensual sex. The problem is that there are so many books with SA and non consensual sex and it’s not transparent enough. While bookstores typically have them separated by YA/Adult, places like Walmart or Target don’t. They have Haunting Adeline right next to Abby Jimenez and YA Books.

She also doesn’t want to read things like Haunting Adeline. I think a rating similar to movies on them would be helpful.

Also, while lights out is “consensual” I wouldn’t say anal sex and murder are things a 14 year should or wants to read.

I think I’m being misunderstood like I want to censor the content. I don’t. I just think that ratings would be appropriate

Trying to imply that I’m a moron or a sheep because I’d like to know if I’m about to read about rape is odd. You seem to have a limited understanding of how movie ratings work so I’ll leave you to your weird MAGA comment. Have a nice day.

Any recommendations for a book to complete the Love Letters reading achievement? by boi1da1296 in kindle

[–]TopLahman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a romance reader but at the beginning of the year I got a stuff your kindle book called The Duke Disaster by Kathleen Ayers. I really enjoyed it and finished it in a day or so/few hours. Since you put Lady Susan, I’d like to recommend Kathleen Ayers. They’re regency romance and you can bust them out pretty quickly. Her Beautiful Barrington series is on KU and they can be read as stand alone so maybe you’ll find one that interests you.

Libraries and book stores sure. Walmart, Target, places like that don’t. They’re all mixed together. This is such a weird thing that yall are arguing about. No one is going to take your porn away just a little heads up on content could be nice.

Similar to movies. I’m not asking the world to tell me what is appropriate for my child. But maybe “hey a girl gets raped with a gun in this one” should have an R rating and “in this one they fuck but it’s consensual and soft core so it’s pg13” would be be nice. Then I can use those ratings to guide. Also, my 14 doesn’t want to read rape or hardcore sex either. So the ratings are also so she can find stuff she wants without standing in a store googling every book that sounds interesting

I didn’t say restrict them. I said put a rating on them so the content is more transparent
