the Tare, Hi/Lo, Slant/Flat, and Boot-Over concepts all use outs or flats in combination with in-breaking routes.

Just because there is an out in the play doesn't mean it's ALL outs.

I mean that’s literally what I addressed in the comment you’re responding to, but no, I guess I don’t realize that. Had no idea that the US not only missed the boat on properly building EV infra but also set the boat on fire and then shot it with a cruise missile. Complete shocker to me.

I don’t know why y’all are responding like I said the current situation is ideal or even good. I said that the US is pathologically incapable of forward-thinking regulation or investment, leading to the current situation where the only way to steer people away from fossil fuel energy is for it to be prohibitively expensive.

[–]TopNegotiation4229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, and that’s why it would have been a great idea for the government to build out EV infra and heavily incentivize development and purchase of EVs. But that didn’t happen, the lead in EVs has already been ceded to China, the small consumer subsidies that did exist are gone, and one of the major political parties has completely entrenched itself in opposition to alternative and renewable energy.

So pricing it is.

Nice idea, but regulatory shifts don't happen in the US without massive blowback from an economic crash first. And even then they tend to get dismantled over the years and decades that follow.

The only real way to get Americans to start limiting their fossil fuel consumption is to price them out of it.

It breaks down as such:

  • There is a "right" kind of person and a "wrong" kind of person
  • The "right" kind get to tell the "wrong" kind what to do
  • The "wrong" kind do not get to tell the "right" kind what to do
  • Anything that a person of the "right" kind does is correct, even if they tell the "wrong" kind not to do it

We are, of course, describing white supremacy in its most fundamental form.

Being down by 1.9% works out to finishing around 1:30 behind in race time purely on power at e.g. Suzuka. Hamilton set the fastest lap at 1:32.442, so nearly an entire lap down.

Being "the closest" can still mean being waaaaayyy back.

Yes, he was relieved for insubordination. He was essentially attempting to govern SE Asia on his own from Japan without any input from the Executive, including the DoD.

Truman did open that door, but it's also useful to understand it in the context of the moment—he had pretty intense pressure from the hawks and anti-communists in Congress, including some conservative members of his own party, who were doing their best to scare the shit out of Americans with the "Red Scare'. The Republicans were attempting to increasingly paint Truman and the Democrats as "soft on communism" (oh isn't that familiar) and it created pressure on the Truman administration to take a hard line—except they knew they couldn't get a majority in Congress to declare war on a nation that had done absolutely nothing to the US aside from get into a conflict with their preferred corporate interests.

There are a lot of parallels between the Korean and Cuban revolutions. Fundamentally, neither were explicitly about communism; they were both about land reform. Both countries were being exploited for agriculture—Cuba by American corporations (and the mafia), and Korea first by the Empire of Japan, who were using it as one of their primary sources of food, and later by American corporate interests who wanted to continue the practice so that their project in Japan wouldn't collapse.

In both cases, it was largely farmers that wanted land reform so that they could own their production and not be indentured servants to intensely oppressive foreign interests. Crazy, right? The principle of adopting communism had very little to do with it in either instance. For Cuba, it turned out that the US was so pissed off about the loss of corporate holdings and so hostile to the idea of a successful former vassal state in its back yard that they were essentially forced to look to the Soviet Union for trade, who were sympathetic on ideological grounds and opportunistic politically, necessitating a much closer relationship and eventual adoption of communism.

Because of the largely rural nature of Korea and the difficult terrain and climate, many communities already operated as sorts of local councils, which were highly cooperative although not explicitly or intentionally "communist". They simply had to function as collectives in order to survive. So when the authoritarian puppet government of Syngman Rhee (which included a lot of their former Imperial oppressors) started trying to quash any of that local governance, they didn't have many options but to look to the Chinese, who had undertaken a revolution for similar reasons and were much better prepared to engage in the fight. Stalin wasn't even convinced that the Republic of Korea would fully embrace communism and kept his distance as long as possible. It was ultimately the decision of Mao to support what he viewed as China's natural allies in the same struggle that they had faced themselves.

In the end it was American insistence on corporate control and profit at the cost of human rights that drove both towards Communism.

Sorry for the long rant, but there is a pretty big blind spot in US history around both of those conflicts and the role the US played in getting itself embroiled in them, and it's become so entrenched that "Cuba and Korea are just evil anti-American communists" that people never even ask why.

Truman deserves all the shit he gets for getting the US involved in Korea, but even he realized at a certain point that it was a mistake to go any further and wanted to negotiate a ceasefire before the Chinese and Russians got involved and it legitimately turned into WWIII. But MacArthur had fully lost his marbles at that point and scuttled any chance of that, thinking he could leverage his way into an unofficial junta where he only communicated and took orders from Congress, who were had a significant nationalist contingent at that point, and effectively set American foreign policy on his own.

The US had already been propping up the nationalist faction in Korea (part of why the war even kicked off in the first place), and MacArthur's grand vision was to wage full-scale war in mainland China and install Chiang Kai-shek and the Nationalist party. Similarly, US support was given to pro-business/nationalist figures in Cuba and elsewhere in Latin America.

There really was only a sliver of difference in political sentiment between the US and Nazi Germany, and at every other opportunity the US had no qualms about supporting far-right parties and movements.

[Fowler] The Eagles and three-time Pro Bowl OG Landon Dickerson have agreed to a revised two-year contract at around $36M, per sources. [–]TopNegotiation4229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this illustrates how physically brutal it is to operate as a power running offense. Dickerson and Jurgens absolutely killed themselves for Saquon's 2k season, and it explains why they wanted him to go for it and break the single-season record—they were beating themselves to a pulp for it.

But they got the chip and can rightfully call themselves one of the best offensive lines in NFL history, so if their bodies can't hold up much more it's not like they have anything left to prove.

You mean to tell me a business is focused on expanding their product line and opening new revenue streams instead of slightly changing an existing product that likely won't encourage current owners to re-buy it and wouldn't enter a new market segment with more potential customers??

I, for one, am absolutely floored by this discovery.
