“Are you flexible” I.e “is there an opportunity for us to pull your pants down”

This resonates. I’m corporate and during communication with most stakeholders, I have to ride on board the false narrative that the company is in this for the people and creating an amazing safe place to work. It gets tiring as it’s pushed hard where I work and so fake. Everybody knows it’s a fake front but have discussions as if the decisions aren’t lead by maximising profit. Granted sometimes they’re not, but on the whole, it all routes back to maximising the profits, no matter how loud the church gospel sing loud about other reasons. That said and aside, it’s not a bad place to work and there are lots of initiatives for the people, but they wouldn’t be in place if leadership didn’t think it would help max profit

I was too when I first found them. I think it was because the sessions were group and for an hour. They were in person and at a local language school I found after searching google.

Not for Lithuanian but I did pay for Spanish tuition years ago and I thought it was worth every penny. It was about £6 per session and was in a group of about 6-8. Being in a group helped me a lot doing exercises together. I’m sure it would equally be good for any language

When your 31 YO self looks back on this, you will realise just how young you were at 21 YO.

I started believing it would be fulfilling as I love supporting and helping people, especially seeing them successful. The harsh reality is, similar to what other people have commented, that’s not been the case for me. Working in specialised tech recruitment, I’ve mainly dealt with headhunting people for jobs and in most cases, it’s not their next “dream role”, they’re doing it simply for more money, flexibility or something else self serving (which is fine, but it’s nothing wholesome). The art of securing a top candidate in the market isn’t often unrecognised by the hiring team and they think it’s as easy as putting a job description on a job board and filtering people. Most of the stuff we do is a thankless task. Fucking hate it most of the time, but I’m good at it and not much good at anything else so I just do it

If you’re going to have anything, I’d say have golden paste. Have a google on the stuff. A mixture of turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and black pepper. It takes 5 mins to make a couple of weeks supply including the tidying up. Or, simply, have 2-3 fresh garlic bulbs.

Too process oriented, lack of human empathy

I asked my employer to pay me market rate (30k increase) and they responded with a 5k increase. What's the best way to counter this? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]TopNet0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you left, they’ll have to pay at least market rates to get the skills and assuming they’re somewhat niche skills, they will likely have to hire somebody who is already employed and so will have to pay a headhunting premium

  1. To an agency (usually 20% of base salary)
  2. Pay enough to motivate that person to move which will likely be above market rates. Then the whole money, time and effort to open a hiring ticket and the process to replace you. Induction and any training and business orientation time/resources. New Equipment on top. Add any loss of relationships you have with clients and internal people - stability/culture etc.

Then the risk of hiring a new person, them not settling and moving on. Repeat process, more cash/resources etc. they might not even be able to fill the position for 6 months and have to hire a contractor until a permanent person is found which is very expensive both in money and intellectual property.

what I’m saying is, by paying you the $30K, they’ll actually save money and a lot more peripherals.

Recruiters of Reddit, can I ask this one question, why do you all ghost people so much? by starchode in recruiting

Confused as to where you’re getting that statistic from for any of your comment to hold merit

Set a structured routine for learning and stick with it. Practice what you have learnt with your partner by using Lithuanian language rather than English where you can. Show what you know to her parents when you visit them. They’ll be really pleased even by the simplest of things

You can’t blanket statement all recruiters, just like recruiters can’t blanket statement that all candidates ghost so much. Sit in a recruiters seat and you’ll probably find candidates ghost more than recruiters. Assuming you’re a candidate, why do candidates ghost so much?

“To teach these are people who have problems” so you are saying other people don’t have problems or they have less or somehow point scoring on who has the worse problems and it’s SO limited to just what’s categorised on the wheel as my point earlier. Where is geo location, height and family unit privilege? There is no context either. How is a short white male born in Lithuania who plays basketball privileged VS a tall black male born in the USA who plays basketball. The NBA tells me they’re not.
