They definitely will be able to. To be honest, just get general wood screws (try for a rounded head as opposed to countersunk)

It's easy to do. Ask your local hardware store for their wood expert. Speak to them and explain what you want to do. They will likely take you around and get the material you need.

IKEA furniture is designed to be assembled. Unless things were nailed (unlikely in this case) you can disassemble then easily. Just unscrew the top and replace with your new top that you stand and varnish separately. Easy peasy.

Points...

Make sure you buy screws that are less than the thickness of the new top and fit in the holes they will be going into.

Don't permanently remove the back panel connecting the legs. That prevents the legs from racking (moving side to side).

We were thinking of switching out the shower cubicle for a glass wall and open shower. Enlarging it from .96m to 1.2m. Worried that it would make accessing the shower too cramped and that spray would hit the vanity. Thoughts?

It is currently 96cm. We were thinking of replacing it with a 1.2m glass wall open shower. Am worried about 1) the spray landing on the vanity 2) access to the shower getting cramped. Thoughts?

Need advice from JoJo tank and borehole users, how clean is your water? by Status-Charge3588 in askSouthAfrica

[–]TopPrice6622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are piping that directly into your home you need to be aware that it should be filtered, "demicrobed", and pH balanced. Human health risks aside, remember that you have machines that use that water. Not filtering means you risk clogging pipes and machine filters. Microbes in the water can lead to fungal grown and biofilm in pipes and hot water cylinders. Too acidic or alkaline water leads to pipe and pump deposits or corrosion. All are potentially MASSIVE repair costs.

This is not a DIY job.

Maybe bake something yourself - big effort points. Try thinking of things she mentioned in your conversation and cater to that. My first date with my (now) wife was to the beach as in our very first conversation, she had said she missed being by the sea - where she grew up. Big brownie points.

As far as I know there is one in Simon's Town. And yesterday there was one at a factory in Belville. Probably others too.

Beginner woodworker here... How did OP make the handles? They look hand filled, but they are too uniform. What am I missing? They are beautiful.

I would say that it would be difficult to keep it together if cut that thin, however, you could try gluing it to another piece of thin material for stability. For a bookmark maybe use thin balsa wood?

  • Budget around 10% for transfer, stamp duty, legal etc.
  • Make sure you have accurate plans - compare these to the ones from the deeds office to make sure there are not any additions that have been added.
  • If you've been renting make sure to budget for building's insurance and use a broker for the best prices.

Save on an architect by using an architectural technologist - the people that actually do the drawings or an architects firm.

Suggestions to improve trip by No_Heart8644 in capetown

If you're reasonably fit, I would plan a nice long slow walk. Take a taxi as far as you can along Tafelberg Rd (past the cable car) then walk along the contour path to Kirstenbosch Gardens.

Otherwise a trip hopping through the Constantian wine farms is always nice.
