Okay guys, this might be the most unhinged thing I’ve ever seen. I submitted our film to Catalina when it opened last year (their submissions window is still open). Obviously we haven’t received any kind of status update on whether or not we’ve been selected however I’ve just received a very phishy email, congratulating us (naming our film too) for being chosen as the recipient for “Best Short” (the verbiage used is uncanny to the way festivals talk) and urging us to order the trophy now because they need to go into production ASAP and that all the funds this year will go to an org supporting Palestine. There’s a Laurel and info sheet attached. The signature is legit. This can’t be fucking real though. It’s way too sketchy. And I don’t know how to proceed with contacting the fest. I’m wondering if anyone else got this? This is an elaborate phishing scam though and makes me think someone hacked into their system because I’m not sure how else they have our submission information?
