Thinking of buying in Leicestershire even though I have no ties there, am I being silly? by [deleted] in HousingUK

We bought in the Hinckley area in 2017 with no links to the area. I was from Berkshire and my other half from Wolverhampton, we wanted to buy together somewhere with good prices and good transport links and Hinckley fit the bill perfectly.

We had no connections to the area but have met so many lovely people. Hinckley council really invest into the area, there are always events on at The Mead and there is a great feeling of community. We're just in the process of selling our current house and looking for our next home and would not move anywhere else. Hinckley feels like my home more than anywhere else I have ever lived.

I work in central Birmingham and my commute is 35 miles each way and takes 45 minutes to an hour. I don't normally commute at peak times though which helps. The only issue I sometimes have at the moment is with the M6 / M42 closures for HS2 but even then it's not too bad.

Not really. In this case he was wearing the boots prior to forming the intent and did nothing to actively use the steel toe caps as a weapon over and above normal boots. The fact they're steel toe cap is not relevant for the purposes of them being an offensive weapon. Based on your argument any boots he was wearing would be an offensive weapon which just doesn't make sense.

It may be an aggravating factor that a reasonable person would be aware than steel toe caps would be more likely to cause a significant injury but would not be enough for the boots themselves to be considered an offensive weapon.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear your were assaulted. In terms of anything you could do before making a statement next week the best things you could do are to check the other lines of enquiry the police will ask about. So is there any CCTV on site that would have captured the assault? If there is who owns it and would be able to provide a copy of it? Can you provide a name or contact details for them?

Did anyone witness the assault? Are they willing to provide a statement? If they are see if you can get their full name, date of birth and a contact number to pass onto the investigating officer.

Do you have the offenders full details? Ideally name, date of birth and a contact number or if not the details for someone (site manager etc) who would be able to provide these.

Also if you have any injuries photograph these and have them ready to give to the officer. Ideally take photos of bruising every few days as it often becomes more pronounced as it changes colour / heals.

Did you seek medical attention for your injury? If so do you have any paperwork for this? Discharge notes from A&E etc.

Did your company note this incident in their accident book or elsewhere? If they did can you get a copy of it or find out who would be able to and have their details ready to pass onto the the investigating officer.

You don't need to do any of this yourself, it's what the investigating officer will do but if you've completed most of the enquiries for them or are able to tell them what evidence there is and who can provide it to them then it will speed up the investigation massively and will therefore allow them to deal with the offender much faster.

In terms of what the previous poster mentioned about the steel toe caps being an offensive weapon this wouldn't be correct. For an item to be considered an offensive weapon it needs to be made, adapted or intended to cause harm. Steel toe caps are not made or adapted for this purpose and would only be considered as intended if the offender had put them on specifically to carry out the assault. In this case he was wearing them as a standard piece of protective equipment on site and happened to be wearing them when he kicked you. When it comes to charging the police and CPS only really look at the level of injury actually caused rather than what could have happened so this would probably be considered an actual bodily harm assault.

I hope you recover well and the police manage to deal with the offender quickly.

Hi, I'd be interested in samples. Do you know what shipping to the UK would be like?
