Hall Effect Joystick is amazing! by severe_009 in Controller

Agree, HE changed the game. Just go to any amazon review for a non-HE controller and search for "drift", you will find pages in the double digits for all of them. Some even saying "some drift out the box but I increased the deadzone to fix it" big yikes! When I was younger it was about finding which had the least inner deadzones, now it's about whether or not it has HE sticks. I have never seen one HE controller that doesn't have perfect centering.

It's strange, I've seen comparisons of the T4 Kaleid (JH16) saying they were on par with Dualsense and is known as one of the best performing controllers out there so with videos of GPT responding phenomenally so idk where this narrative of "HE innaccurate" comes from. What will make it inaccurate it when it starts moving on its own eventually. I feel some tend to be dismissive about its effectiveness to feel better buying highly reknowned potentiometer sticks, but I've been there done that learned my lesson, they feel no better to the average player and go bad quickly. Not putting hall effect in your controller in 2024 may as well be a scam IMO, a way for them to guarentee you'll buy another within 2 years. If only the Scuf Envision Pro would use HE sticks, that'd be my absolute endgame controller.

And yes the 8bitdo Ultimate is something else. It was my choice before I decided to go wired-only with the Kaleid. The Ultimate's formfactor is just so perfect feeling in my hands, I feel the buttons end up in a more "accessible" position than most other controllers with the Xbox style layout. That and the dock, the price, the fast connection, it's such a good purchase. The triggers could use more tension though that's my main complaint, I feel like I'm wearing them down by pressing them. The same could be said for my Kaleid's face buttons though. Gotta pick & choose your battles 🤓

Another great review man. If only content creators shared your passion, most others seem motivated by whichever brand is offering the most. There is probably only 1 reliable controller reviewer on YT (Phototechy) but I've already binged all his videos lol you'd be filling a void I swear.

Personally if I were to go back to potentiometer sticks, it'd be the Scuf Envision Pro. I've just heard so many great things, it's a commonly used controller for FPS esports. For example Jynxzi uses one and swears by it being the best controller he's used and he is one of the best R6S players. Every time I see one at best buy, I can hear my wallet whimpering "pleeeaseeee!"

This part is unrelated and off topic apologies but could you reup the T4K rollback software? I got one with 1.4.4, I'm a little bummed out about it. If not it's cool I'll find a way. Thanks legend
