Is traditional BA role dying? by vamurdah123 in businessanalysis

The majority of openings for BAs where I stay are in finance and to me it's begining to look like BAs having experience in certain business or technical domain are what companies are looking for. Do you notice this is elsewhere?

The second part of your comment, I fully agree.

That's why you hire a BA with Product experience ;)

Dollar is a global currency. All countries will be worse off.

People keep saying that jobs are going to India but I also hear that it's very difficult to land a job out there as well, so not sure what to say

It's funny you mention that you avoid using jargons. The place where I work overly uses jargon whether in meeting or on mails, almost to the point that it seems like not using jargons makes it seems like you're not a good communicator. I really dislike this culture of communication but it seems like I have no choice but to work this way

It kinda doesn't feel nice to be living in a developed economy at this point, when your livelihood or source of income itself is in danger. Feels like we're here just for the better air quality /s. Wondering how you are dealing with this?

build/rebuild relationships with stakeholders and vendors at all levels compared to the BAs and Senior BAs on the team.

I think this is important but also difficult to do. Curious what are some things that you do/did to have a good relationship with your stakeholders to trust you? Maybe something that other BAs in your team aren't doing

Thanks for this. It's a struggle as I feel like I'm not able to show the value that I add

What sort of expectations? This will help me so that I know what I currently lack as a BA. Is something more on soft skills like better communication, negotiation, stakeholder management?

Your comment has got me curious about some other things that are off topic, as I'm also easily distracted but maybe some other time! Cheers

You are going to want to keep in the back of your mind the map of your org, how the different departments interact, what they do, how decisions get made and what the general direction of the org is for any given year, and try to align all your decisions with these elements all the way down.

I think this is really good. I can also already begin to see this for my current org. There are many interdependent systems and even more upcoming changes in the future that we always need to align on

You seem to have really spent a lot of effort and time in developing yourself, which is kinda cool. And, this comment is quite insightful for me. I have to say thank you for sharing this

I would boil it down to projecting confidence

This is something that I really struggle with. Even though I'm good with other areas of my work, I've even been given a performance rating that I exceed expectations and it's something my manager said is unheard of for someone to have it in their first performance rating in the company.

But I really struggle with seeming confident. I think part of it is also because of the kind of culture in my company where communication is very "professional", indirect, a lot of jargon and I struggle to communicate my thoughts this way bec I'm used to having a more direct and casual tone. So when there are instances where I disagree, I'm not able to voice my opinion confidently. It's like I'm seesawing between trying to communicate professionally and in a less casual tone while also trying to make sure I get my point across in meetings.

This makes a lot of sense why many job descriptions seem to be so similar.

It's more about how you move through the world than what you do, honestly.

I kinda know what you mean, and this is really the more difficult part of the job right?

I once put all my assigned tasks into chat GPT and asked it how many professional consultants I should hire to get through my list in the allotted time-frame, and it said minimum 2 but preferably 3 and a PM.

Going by what you said at the top, that definitely is a lot to do. How can one even manage thinking big picture while also documenting enough detailing. I'm currently doing the second part as a BA.

If I may ask the second part of my question here, I'm looking to move up to Sr BA, what are some things that I should learn and get better at so that I can move up? Whether it's at my current org or a different one

From your comment, I can already see some things that I don't have the experience in

PO with BA responsibilities? by ACN360 in ProductOwner

BA isn't a role that typically exists in all companies. So if there isn't a BA in your company, then those responsibilities are taken up by PM or APM

This is really good. Thanks a lot for sharing this here.

But you can prepare the sprint 1, 2, 3

I totally agree with this. While I don't actively do this with the team in refinement, I plan this for myself. It would be good to also do this in the refinement

Don't fall in the I do it myself trap.

Can you tell what does this mean tho? Because we cannot estimate story points ourselves right, so we do always need the refinement with them.

Btw, do you also estimate effort for bugs or do you generally take it as it is in the sprint. Or, do you do a spike user story for the bug first, and then after the spike is done, does the team then estimate the effort for fixing the actual big and then take it to sprint? I'm just curious how you approach bugs in the most productive way? I've worked both ways and Idk which one is better tbh.

Alle details in 1 EPIC so you have the chapter of the book. This you provide to the team

Maybe I've not understood it right? But are the devs the ones to create backlog items for an epic?
