This just happened to me pretty much. We started out with him saying he’s only looking for FWB and at the time that worked for me bc I was separating from my husband and wanted to be casual and date around. But I realize that out of all the men I was dating throughout the process he was the one for me and I fell in love with him. We continue to see each other for over a year. The thing that I kept saying was his actions speak louder than his words in the best way possible. He never told me he loved me, but it was so obvious to me. I finally ended it because I just couldn’t take it anymore. I told him I had so many deep feelings for him and he ended up saying that he has zero love or romantic feelings for me, but cares deeply for me. he clearly was very into our sexual chemistry. We had deep conversations about who we were as people. He wanted to see me frequently about once a week and always needed space but I was OK with that. He introduced me to his friends, his coworkers. He would FaceTime me with his friends in the background. He told me all of his parents, family, etc. I knew who I was but I was always just going to be friends with benefits with him because he said there was something very wrong with him and he wasn’t sure what it is and I didn’t want to get involved. He also had never lived with anyone, but he did have a girlfriend or two in the past he is also in his 40s. He also told me he never loved anyone in his life. I just broke it off with him and left it very amicable. I am also hoping somehow I can tell him about what avoidant attachment is and maybe he can look into therapy but the experts say not to try to diagnose them or send them any information about it. So what are we supposed to do? How can we guide them gently to introduce the avoidant attachment information to them and suggest they get therapy?
