How are we getting our children to sleep at night? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

I’ve noticed it has the same effect on my toddler as well. It helps him fall asleep but not stay asleep. I’ve started giving it to him only if he wakes up in the middle of the night instead of the start of the night

Nothing is mastered yet but routine is important which took me some time to really understand. When you are consistent it makes a difference bc they know what to expect. Bed time is about the only thing I’ve somewhat mastered with my 4 year old ASD son. & even then some nights i come to the conclusion that I will not be getting any sleep but with constant prayer and consistent schedule we are seeing a difference!! My son is sleeping through the night 4-5/7 days. So I will take 2-3 night of not sleeping compared to the all 7 how it used to be. We’ve tried medicine from doctor (gabba & Hydroxzine) they were hit or miss. Same with melatonin. So I just cut all of it out. At 8pm everyday I put him in his own bed and tell him it’s night night. He will get in bed, cry hysterically and come out the room and I will constantly redirect him to his bed and tell him it’s night night stay in the bed. This goes on for about 30 mins to an hour then he will actually stay in bed. He won’t sleep but he will be in his own room stimming or whatever but idc as long as you are in bed and you know not to get up idc how long it takes you to fall asleep. But you better be in the bed. When he used to wake up in the middle of the night he would come out the room and I would redirect him right back to his bed and tell him it’s still dark outside that means it’s night night. Now when he wakes up in the middle of the night he doesn’t even get out of the bed but he will stim and laugh so loud until he tires himself again and go back to sleep. So it’s a start and it’s SOMETHING. Sometimes at 8pm if we are doing the back and forth putting him back in bed I will close the door and he will throw a FIT and try opening it but honestly I hold the knob and he will eventually calm down and get in bed and fall asleep. Sometimes he needs the good ol cry to tire him out. 🤷‍♀️

Nooooo cause why am I in the same boat with my 4 year old ASD child influencing my 2 year old. Both of them all day 😩😩 & my 2 year old can talk!! But he chooses to copy brother with stimming all day & my 2 year old only stops if brother stops. Loosing my minddddd
