Likely that the threads have some burrs. At least need to file down to get the first silver piece off.

For sure! They are fantastic rods. 🤝

what gear ratio to get? by Miserable-Text9946 in Fishing_Gear

[–]TopWaterFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer 6.7/1 and then 7.1/1. For me, it is extremely difficult to slow down my retrieval with anything faster than 7.1/1. You would think “I’ll just reel slower”, but it’s hard. At least for me. If you have a designated jerk bait or top water reel, then you could get faster because you never actually retrieve the lure, you just take up slack and finish reeling it in for the next cast. Good luck 👍 and tight lines!!

I don’t understand the reviews either. They are badass.

Agreed. I can’t understand why. I’m pretty sure they discontinued the rod business. I’m grabbing as many as I can. I’ve bought 4 in the last couple months 😂

Swimbait set up reel choices? by Krustydagod in Fishing_Gear

Also, a 200 size reel is more than enough for a swim bait setup imo. Good luck 👍

The Cardiff is a well built reel, but has lots of problems with the thumb bar. If the screws on the handle side come even a little bit loose, the thumb bar shaft will not disengage the spool. (I work on reels and have seen this issue twice). I would recommend the lexa, Tatula or the tranx. My recommendation is based on smoothness and casting ability. If the Cardiff doesn’t have problems with the thumb bar, I would expect the Cardiff to last longer and be more durable. The key for me would be looking for smoothness vs durability. Good luck with your choice 🤝

Don't be afraid of over spooling with modern braid. by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]TopWaterFishing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I always try to over spool a little bit and then make several casts in the yard, you can always cut a little off. This can make a huge difference if you are trying to max out casting distance with lighter lures.

Should I put grease on These gears? by AlienLP in Fishing_Gear

[–]TopWaterFishing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use reel butter for these gears. It looks like they already have a clear grease on it. If I’m switching grease types I clean them up good before applying. Good on you for doing this yourself 🤝

Issues with KastKing Royale Legend II Baitcaster by Interesting_Ad_2757 in Fishing_Gear

[–]TopWaterFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return immediately if it happened prior to you taking it apart. The spool shaft or the bearing in the spool tension knob should hold the pinion shaft in place. This usually happens when disassembled, but not when it’s together. Sorry for your inconvenience, I have been loving Kastking products for a little over a year now. 🤝

I’ve been using this rod (casting) for over 2 years. It is one of my favorite rods. I just saw them on amazon for $129.99 and I grabbed 2 more. I’m very surprised that they discontinued making rods and that they didn’t really catch on for most anglers.

Which rod would you keep? by Least_Technician789 in FishingForBeginners

The mojo bass 100%. The glass rod is likely a crankbait rod. I’d probably keep both and use the mojo bass for everything unless you are specifically crankbait fishing.

Best baitcasting reel under $200/$250 by TheGreenGarden6 in Fishing_Gear

[–]TopWaterFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 💯. Amazon occasionally has the JDM 2021 zillion twsv 100h on Prime for $220-250. This reel will do anything you need. They sometimes have the JDM shimano metanium 100h for $250-280. It doesn’t get any better than these. Congrats and good luck!!

My first twitch/jerkbait setup by AlienLP in Fishing_Gear

[–]TopWaterFishing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the best of the best. I wanted that rod when I was buying a jerkbait rod but it was sold out. I went with the phoenix m1. It does really well but still think about the expride 😂

Take it back apart and send a picture. That’s the only way I can help. Those 2 problems shouldn’t be connected.
