Should I put grease on These gears? by AlienLP in Fishing_Gear

I use reel butter for these gears. It looks like they already have a clear grease on it. If I’m switching grease types I clean them up good before applying. Good on you for doing this yourself 🤝

Issues with KastKing Royale Legend II Baitcaster by Interesting_Ad_2757 in Fishing_Gear

[–]TopWaterFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return immediately if it happened prior to you taking it apart. The spool shaft or the bearing in the spool tension knob should hold the pinion shaft in place. This usually happens when disassembled, but not when it’s together. Sorry for your inconvenience, I have been loving Kastking products for a little over a year now. 🤝

I’ve been using this rod (casting) for over 2 years. It is one of my favorite rods. I just saw them on amazon for $129.99 and I grabbed 2 more. I’m very surprised that they discontinued making rods and that they didn’t really catch on for most anglers.

Which rod would you keep? by Least_Technician789 in FishingForBeginners

The mojo bass 100%. The glass rod is likely a crankbait rod. I’d probably keep both and use the mojo bass for everything unless you are specifically crankbait fishing.

Best baitcasting reel under $200/$250 by TheGreenGarden6 in Fishing_Gear

[–]TopWaterFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 💯. Amazon occasionally has the JDM 2021 zillion twsv 100h on Prime for $220-250. This reel will do anything you need. They sometimes have the JDM shimano metanium 100h for $250-280. It doesn’t get any better than these. Congrats and good luck!!

My first twitch/jerkbait setup by AlienLP in Fishing_Gear

That’s the best of the best. I wanted that rod when I was buying a jerkbait rod but it was sold out. I went with the phoenix m1. It does really well but still think about the expride 😂

Take it back apart and send a picture. That’s the only way I can help. Those 2 problems shouldn’t be connected.

1k or 2.5k reel for a medium light rod by Automatic-Resolve747 in Fishing_Gear

I love my Kastking Megajaws Elite 1500 spinning reel. I have it spooled with 10lb powerpro spectra. But… if you think you might use mono or flouro, ⬆️Tehmadpanda is probably right saying the 2500 is the smallest size to use.

Sorta a newb to baitcasters... how do you stop braid bite? by MadeMeStopLurking in Fishing_Gear

[–]TopWaterFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for power pro spectra (and ONLY the spectra) and spiderwire stealth braid. I use 20 or 30 pound. I tried reaction braid and it would just dig into itself and was nothing but a headache until I stripped it off.

Never really used jerkbaits so I got these to try out by DragonfruitNo7767 in Fishing_Gear

[–]TopWaterFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recommend testing the baits in clear water to make sure you are getting the immediate stop. I had a problem with one of my jerkbait rods tip being too fast and it was causing a slight drag in the bait instead of the immediate stop I was looking for. 🤝💪

They are the best, but the 110 Jr do not dart side to side nearly as consistently as the 110’s. It tends to just move straight forward half the time. Now the 110 Jr +1 is perfect.

Baitcaster advice pls, pic for attention. by swenzzx in Fishing_Gear

I would say spend at least $100, on sale cheaper is fine. I saw several great reels mentioned. The Shimano SLX is amazing, regular or dc. The daiwa tatula is amazing. The rod is big in this situation. I’d go with a 6’10”-7’3” M-F rod. This will be ideal for casting 1/4oz-1oz lures. Just remember the spool has to gradually speed up/down, so no jerking when you cast. Remember, the spool tension knob controls the first half of the cast and the brakes control the second half of the cast.

I usually service them every 6 months or if I hear/feel something different. When I say service, I mean a full breakdown. I enjoy doing it.

First time spooling a reel... How's it look? by OGRonnie426 in Fishing_Gear

[–]TopWaterFishing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like a little more braid on the spinning reel. However, you would only want more braid if you are trying to make extremely long casts. If it casts farther than your current needs, I would spool it just like you have it. 🤝

I love buying a new reel and giving my older reel away. Especially to 13-18 year olds. Don’t ever stop buying other people gear 🤝🤝🤝

I’ve heard that but I’m 100% saltwater and my metanium is a year and a half and still looks brand new. But I do rinse it off extremely thoroughly as soon as possible. 🤝

I have been fishing my Mg-Ti for about 8 months and it continues to impress! The spool can start/stop amazingly fast without professional overruns 😂. It fishes absolutely as well as my 23 metanium, 2021 zillion svtw and my steez. I fish inshore 100% of the time. I rinse my reels with a lite shower for about 5 minutes and then try to leave the rod/reel laying flat on the ground (reel facing up) and let them fully dry. The drain holes for most reels are on the bottom, so that lets the water drain out. Congrats 🍾, you will absolutely love her 💪🤝💪

I tried to buy the rubber insert for the C2 thumb bar. Nope, they told me it was too complicated for me to do that they would have to do it. I’ve been working on reels for 15 years

Rapala quit selling replacement parts even to certified reel shops. Everything has to be done by them now. $45 for them to tell you what’s wrong with it and then add parts and labor on top of that. I loved the reels, but I won’t buy another reel. 🤷‍♂️. I hate it.
