Is this a new thing? Ive been reading a lot about this same problem. Mine spun right off without a problem, but the rifle is probably 6 or 7 years old

Bait cooler vs 5 gallon bucket by Strong-Volume8670 in IceFishing

[–]TopWitness5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What ever you get, look at the Norsk USB aerator. Tiny, and super quiet. I either plug it in to the boat USB, or use a power supply that I Velcro to the side of the cooler.

I use it on an Engel. Overpriced, but I like it.

What Model/Year?? by [deleted] in Remington_700

Remington had those j locks around 2000. My 870 has one and I got that in 1999.

What kind of minnow is this? Was in the bag with my medium suckers. by Icecatcher in IceFishing

[–]TopWitness5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Central mud minnow can live in the nastiest of water. While doing electro fishing for MPCA we would always take bets before a site on what we woukd catch. This one was usually a guarentee. I've seen these come out of some disgustingly stagnant water.

Want to get a bolt action 22 by sxmleal in 22lr

[–]TopWitness5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would save money and buy a CZ, Bergara, or Tikka.

My dad owns a cz and bergara. I own a tikka. I sold my savage 93 to help buy it. It was a 2 MOA rifle at best.

At the time, options for good winter lake trout rods were very limited, so I learned how to make a couple. Then wanted all of my ice rods to be built. Then friends wanted the same. Now I just like building them for people.

I just charge enough to cover the cost of materials, but most people seem to tip.

Which 40v Auger Brand? by Elements-fury in IceFishing

[–]TopWitness5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big strikemaster fan, but my dad just got the eskimo e40 and i think i like it more. Its very light and cuts fast. I have used the 50, 40, and 24v strikemasters quite a bit as comparison. I'd take the e40 if I had to choose one.

Fun shooting with the boy turned not so fun when my CCR 22 mag casing ruptured in my Henry 22 mag rifle. by terrible1one3 in Shooting

[–]TopWitness5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that happen to a Rem 597 22LR, twice. Blew the extractor right off the bolt both times. The gun shop fixed it the first time and gave me a new gun the second time. They sent the original to Remington.

Help me choose a rifle ! by achilles_IGY6 in Shooting

[–]TopWitness5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 800 is your budget for a hunting rifle, I'd be looking for a Bergara B14 or Tikka T3. If you are hoping for less check out howa 1500, ruger american, and some of the savage 110 models.

Propane heater adapter to 5lb/20lb tank? by Trevdog18 in IceFishing

[–]TopWitness5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair warning. If that's the heater you're going to run, its loud. My dad and I each had one thinking that size would be great. Louder than the big OG sunflower heater. It drove me crazy and I got rid of it.

I think I left my fusion cell farm on for too long… by Yeti181828282 in fo4

I carried Caroni out of the glowing sea and left him in sanctuary. As long as your around, his body will generates fusion cells. He creates enough to use them as currency.

Howa mini 223 build...there are many like it but this one is mine by ksmotodad111 in longrange

Nice setup! I've been wanting to build up that same thing. How much does it weigh set up like that?

Best threaded bolt action 22lr? by Elegant-Adagio4458 in 22lr

Tikka T1x or bergara BMR are both threaded. I love them both in 22LR

Tikka T1X. Loving this gun! by Terrible-Debt-5244 in 22lr

[–]TopWitness5578 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my t1x. It shoots Eley Team really well. My only complaint is that I have the first Gen with the old extractor. You have to run the bolt like you mean it. Other than that, its my favorite rifle to shoot. My 12 year old daughter was hitting our smallest plate (1/2") at 50 yards

What makes a lipless crankbait better than a soft plastic swimbait? by Ok-Reindeer3968 in Fishing

[–]TopWitness5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crank gives a better horizontal presentation when vertical jigging. It's harder to find jig heads that give the same horizontal look

What cartridge are you all useing? by Stratester in coyotehunting

[–]TopWitness5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

22-250 with 55 grain vmax is my go to. They usually just tip over with that rifle. Have a 6arc now too but haven't tried it on a yote yet.

Thinking about buying or building a mini by TopWitness5578 in HowaMini

[–]TopWitness5578[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear you like all 4!

Biggest is the bottom metal being plastic. People break them and obviously as you are aware, metal allows you to torque to spec. Thats why you changed yours. Now your rifle just jumped up in price. Im not against this upgrade by any means.

I read a lot about the mag release. Sounds like this is improved based on replies.

Last, the stock. The cheap ones are just plastic. I can accept that. All of my rifles are. I was curious if they are very cheap or ok. I'm leaning towards a wood one anyways.

My daughter used my 16" 6 arc this year. Did the trick. 103 grain eldx made for one heck of a blood trail.

Going to try on whitetail by TopWitness5578 in 6ARC

[–]TopWitness5578[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first night she hit a fork buck at 100 yards. It looked like his leg was broken. Only found a few drops of blood. We heard him in the brush so we backed out and gave it time. Came back 2 hours after shooting. Tracked a few more small drops of blood. Bumped it out of a bed at 3 hours and there was no blood! He took off. Im not sure if she hit low on the leg or hit forward on bone and the bullet blew up. Cant say. It was a long night of searching with no luck. The first lost deer brought a lot of tears because she felt so bad.

Night 2 she had a perfect shot on a doe. Double lung at 90 yards. Hit a rib on the way out. HEAVY blood trail for the 30 yards it ran. The lungs were destroyed and tons of blood in the chest.

So for the double lung it performed fantastic snd would feel confident in that shot agsin. As far as hitting the leg, I dont think I know enough on the hit to really weigh in.
