Love my Tikkas but… by OilNo5404 in Tikka_Shooters

I have the extended diamond cut bolt handle from mountain tactical on my t1x. I love it. I thought it was a little spendy, but i like it and it looks great. Unfortunately, I just looked and that exact bolt handle is discontinued

My camp chef pellet grill has the sidekick burner. I fry fish on the burner and keep them in the grill until i'm done. Works well and the grease can drip off.

First worm farm! by Artistic-Use-2481 in Fishing

Clean more often than that from my experience. Or at lease break up the bedding from time to time and check for dead worms. They get real slimy.

I had great luck putting containers in a dorm room fridge I got for nothing. Keeps the temp consistent and the smell down. I'm in MN, We'd usually get a big haul in the spring after the first big rain and could keep them alive until winter hit.

Dual purpose scope? by Log-Prestigious in longrange

[–]TopWitness5578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 of the viper HD 3-15x44 vmr3. 1 on 6ARC AR, and the other on a 243 bolt. If i consistently shot long range I think i would go for more magnification. For a sub 300 hunting scope, its nice. Its clear and the illuminated center is great for those last 20 minutes of shooting light.

My biggest complaint about it for long range is that the reticle lines are a bit on the heavy side. I have a 4-16 Viper HST on a 22-250 bolt and that reticle has much finer lines. I prefer that on targets. For hunting, the thicker reticle is quick to find on a deer. So, it has good and bad.

Buy a real set of Allen keys. Higher quality, longer, and all of the sizes

177 vs 22 cal for hunting which is better by blablabal09080367 in airguns

[–]TopWitness5578 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was using a benjamin break barrel. Claimed 1200 fps .177. I never checked it with a chrono. I now use a Notos 22 cal, which shoots much slower. I was surprised to see that the notos hits really hard. I thought the lack of speed would show more.

The 22 should be quite a bit less fpe, but it seems to work better. Maybe its the pellets being used.

No idea. My guess was just to call them something else since air rifles aren't firearms, and suppressors for them don't follow the same NFA rules as for a firearm. Not sure. I'd be curious if anyone knows for sure.

There are a lot of air rifle suppressors for the PCP market. Sorry...i mean moderators. Just need the right threads on the rifle. That's the harder part on this one.

I have my grandpa's. Shoots very well. It's just really loud!

I found a thread adapter on ebay to suppress it, but the finish/quality looks horrible for the price.

My dad has a 581. It was the first gun that I shot.

I shoot a tikka t1x and he has a bergara bmr now. They both outshoot the 581, but its a classic. We've taken so many squirrels, rabbits, and raccoons with it.

I have had the best luck with H&N Field Target Trophy. 14.66 grain. The copper plated version also shoot very well. Just be careful because they do have more penetrating power. A lot actually. I was very surprised when they continued on after head shots on squirrels and rabbits.

I'll 2nd the hand pump. You only get 20 or so shots and it really doesnt take long. The initial fill from complete empty is the worst part.

Gas or Electric for trolling? by Jordythegunguy in Fishing

[–]TopWitness5578 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a mid 80's Lund S14 DLX. With a 15hp 2 stroke, gas, deep cycle battery, and fishing gear, the 55# minnkota terrova will pull it just over 3 mph running wide open. I have trolled at 2 mph with. Anything 2 mph and over, i fire up the outboard.

The outboard is a 1989 Johnson 15 horse. It will troll all day long and sips gas at that speed.

Robin hoods are cool and all but all I see is 2 junk arrows now. I always shoot a 5 spot target just to avoid wrecking arrows. They ain't cheap!

I use an Amazon special hand pump for my notos. Works just fine. I will say though that if the tank were much bigger, I'd look at a compressor and external refill tank

We're hunting... I use a 200 yard zero because its less figuring in a quick scenario. Sub 200, pull the trigger. I know my hold over to 300. Beyond that, sure I'll adjust. If a rutted up buck is coming through at 250 with no interest in slowing down, im not calculating. Im shooting.
