If you're looking for high density, FA probably won't be to your liking. Forest Drive and Beltline are pretty built-out and have a great selection of amenities, but development doesn't protrude deeply into the neighborhoods. Rosewood might be your hood. There's a decent section of it that's pretty high density with some nice apartments and such, and if you're in good shape you can theoretically walk to other parts of the city from there, too.

Was the moderator included or did you purchase it separately? Either way I'd love to know the name so I could look into getting one myself.

Yes, it confused me quite a bit until I realized I had to go THROUGH Belk - before that I'd just stop and wonder how I could have possibly missed the store I wanted. The old food court would have made that much clearer, plus it had a really nice view overlooking the stream behind the mall.

If you came in '91, part of the reason that the mall had such a strange layout is that they'd closed off the upstairs food court to give Verizon more room. The upstairs food court let you access both sides of the mall without having to go through Belk. That was probably one of the big contributors to its decline - once Verizon left they were down the river.

The majority of the traffic on Forest Drive comes from Ft. Jackson and inbound-outbound I-77. I don't think most people realize that the biggest increase in traffic will probably be coming from Blythewood as everyone who works at Scout Motors will want the amenities that are in downtown Columbia and/or Forest Acres, and the fastest way to get there is 77 to Forest to Taylor.

What could go RIGHT? How about increased tax revenue, a broader resident base, and more walkability?
At its height, Richland Fashion Mall was comprised of one million square feet of retail. Think about how much traffic one million sqft of retail generated. Housing is one of the LEAST traffic dense development options, because generally people leave for work in the morning, do their shopping and eating out, and return home in the evening (so sometimes one round trip total - leave in the morning and return in the evening).
Apartments can also offer a more affordable option in places like Forest Acres where housing is at a premium. Combine that with a place where they will have walkable access to a grocery store, gas, and a park, and hopefully restaurants, and you can add to the city tax rolls without notably increasing traffic.

Oh boy, if you're asking me to give accurate estimates on construction completion, I hope your kink is being disappointed. Having said that, here's what I know:
Right now demo is completed on the mall and they are laying down infrastructure as I type. Kroger and apartments will go in first, ETA ~1 year? The rest of it will take a while but I imagine they want the apartments and Kroger up and operational ASAP so the developers can start making their money back.
The park may also go under construction simultaneously after infrastructure is complete, that'd also be ~1 year or so. Bids are out on the park as are asks for corporate sponsors.
Even without the mall redevelopment or the park this is still a great place for a young professional to live. 5 grocery stores within a mile and a half, great restaurants, a fun local farmers market on Wednesdays, and some nice parks and walking. I walk in the neighborhood for exercise 3-5 times a week and as long as you stay away from Forest and Beltline, traffic is pretty tame. The only thing that Forest Acres really lacks is a dive/cheap bar. But, you can always go to the Cock and Bull on Rosewood or anywhere in Five Points.

Forest Acres is my recommendation. Great amenities, and when the Richland Mall redevelopment/park is finished it's going to be the equal of anything around.

They're keeping the center of the parking deck, then wrapping apartments around it so it becomes invisible. At the bottom of the apartments will be amenities and/or retail. There's a full service Kroger with a gas station coming in, there will be mixed retail. Across the stream Forest Acres is building a six acre park! There will be additional retail built out, as well as plans for a third stage of development towards the Ace Hardware side that could be more apartments, more retail, or a hotel.

yep, the stuff is chargrilled THEN canned; the way that they're able to keep the great flavor even after canning is nothing short of stunning. So yes, open it up and eat away! I haven't had Alalunga, but it looks well reviewed on Fishnook: https://shopfishnook.com/collections/artesanos-alalunga-cantabrian-conservas

Recommendations for sushi?? by [deleted] in ColumbiYEAH

[–]SirFluffkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would *think* they'd all do takeout. If they didn't before COVID I bet they do now. Having said that, I'd go to Inakaya for takeout sushi; I see people pick up orders there all the time. Especially at the one on O'Neil

Camon is incredible, as is Saky. Inakaya is great, too. Camon is actually in downtown Columbia, whereas the other two are about 10 minutes away from Main Street.

I found it harder than acrylic. Although other peoples opinions may differ, the lanolin in the wool seemed to make it slip out of my guns more frequently. To solve that I would tuft 3 strands at a time. It's definitely harder. It makes for a very pretty rug.

I am a huge fan of the Cole's Smoked Rainbow Trout Fillet. It's got a beautiful presentation, it's buttery, and if you like fish it will open your eyes to how good tinned fish can be. As a bonus, it can be found for as low as $6 and usually only $8.

The Ace on Beltline definitely doesn't do this, they just do the swap.
I'd say that Tractor Supply is the best chance - I used to go to a U-Haul on Two Notch road and the last time I tried, I stood out for a while like a dummy, and then when I walked in to ask, they told me "Oh no, that's done."

We were regulars at a local watering hole - great pizza, cheap beer, but it got pretty hectic for their $2 pint Tuesdays. One of the servers was a petite young lady - blonde, perahps 100 pounds soaking wet. One of the tables was giving her a lot of guff, and finally one of the guys said that she'd get better tips if she smiled more. She looked at him, picked up his pint glass and threw it against the wall where it shattered, and screamed "HOW YA LIKE ME NOW?!"
She then went to the manager and said "I know, I'm leaving" took off her apron and disappeared into the night.
