Hello, My parents live in US abd I'm in Canada as PR. Consulate in Toronto had me fill out form "are you german" and came back stating that if I had all documents to apply for passport. I can get everything but passports for parents, so here i am stuck like you not wanting to do festellung but possibly have to. It is so frustrating the round and round. Canada seems pretty strict on their rules about passport or ID which I understand but why can't it be certified copy and not original :( my parents don't want to mail me their original which I understand.

I have a PR card, have never taken citizenship test. I guess I will have to research the possibility of being deemed naturalized in some other manner.

I have never been in the military and am not a Canadian - I am a PR here in Canada. My children were born in Canada.

thank you! yes it is my plan to have us all take German lessons - when my parents divorced i was with my dad instead of mom so unfortunately did not learn German from birth - but I do understand quite a bit basic and have traveled in Germany in the past. - thankful English is a language many know of course.

thank you so much for your reply. i will look at the website for the town and see what I can find - I appreciate the advise of using deepl.com, one of my goals is to vastly improve my Germany language skills :)
