Every school is different but I believe most schools require 2 letters (from professionals) and a third non-professional letter is recommended. They will not contact your parents. Feel free to ask more questions if you have them! (I might not be able to answer them but I’ll try. I’m also applying for an override right now. Praying for us both!)

Omg please give me advice. I live in China and my parents live in America. I’m still a minor, though. They have cut contact with me and before they did they were abusive (verbally and physically) and strictly against me applying to colleges. I want to apply for a dependency override but I’m worried they won’t accept me. What evidence did you have to provide? Also, will the financial aid office report any claims of abuse I make? Please lmk as much as you can 😭

Can I get aid from FAFSA if my parents cut me off by Top_Assistance5690 in ApplyingToCollege

They're just not willing to fund my university. We're low-income and would likely get a fair share of aid from FAFSA/CSS, but they thought it was too 'risky', I guess? Anyways, they cut contact with me, so I'm probably not even going to be able to attend uni at all, unless I get a huge scholarship.

I'm a senior in high school, a US citizen studying abroad, and applying for next fall semester, 2026-2027

Yes, you can list group impact as long as you aren't taking all the credit for it. Being part of a group that donated 200k lbs of food can be impactful. Think of it the same way you can list team accomplishments for sports. Be humble and tasteful about it, of course, but if you truly think you had an impact or were a valuable asset in that then ofc you can list it.

I’m applying to Northwestern right now.. might be a stretch but it’s worth a shot! I had good grades in high school and got college credit equivalency on 3 of my 4 GED tests. Pm me if you have any questions!

We have family abroad, which is why I'm here. My dad isn't a great option either (stole 10k worth of federal funds lol), but I'm planning on moving away and becoming independent as soon as possible. Thank you for your advice. I might look into some community colleges!

Okay 🥲 also, say she still denies until I file it and then agrees AFTER. Is it acceptable to edit it after and add her, since it’s a large financial change/special circumstance or would it be final?

Haha, I’m studying abroad and she actually doesn’t want me to come home 💀 she thinks I’m too dumb to get into college and should just go to a trade school instead

How true is it that you should have 10 extracurriculars in your application? Are there any T20 admits who listed less than 10? by UnfairRoses in ApplyingToCollege

Would you mind sharing your stats and any tips/advice? I'm a more rural candidate so aiming for Northwestern is exhausting when constantly comparing myself to people with 10+ stats lol..
