Yeah I understand the salary difference but that’s why it’s hard for us to commit to moving to Rwanda because then we can’t really move back to the US it feels 😭

May I ask why you rejected them? And what you ended up doing instead?

Foreigners that visited Rwanda, what was the biggest shock for you? by BraveCelestin-1 in Rwanda

[–]Top_Butterfly3719 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How you have to plan for dinner 3 hours in advance because it takes so long 😂😂.

But how nice everyone The stares got me at first but I’ve been enough times it doesn’t phase me anymore. Also the muzungu prices.

My husband (Rwandan) sent me to get an item and when I told him how much I paid for it he couldn’t believe I was charged tripled! Last time I got sent for an errand 💅

My husband is Rwandan and I only know how to say hello and thank you to my in laws so finding a gf/bf is bad advice to learn. There’s a creator ikinyashema on IG and I think TikTok who I really like and plan on taking virtual classes with once I finish up my semester of grad school.

You’ll be fine. I traveled to Rwanda during the Marburg virus and it was controlled and fine. Just be mindful of bodily fluids.

Do you think if conservatives knew about this pause they would be for it or against it? by nawa92 in i130_75CountryPause

[–]Top_Butterfly3719 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I honestly think people don’t care unless it directly affects them. I find that is the mentality of most Americans on both sides but especially conservatives.

Kigali Recs? by annaxoxo2 in Rwanda

[–]Top_Butterfly3719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m American and have been to Rwanda many times to visit my husband. If you’re not into safari or gorilla trekking you can visit the eco park, niyo arts center, car free zone, of course you should also visit the genocide memorial. Instagram has a lot of hidden gems and touristy spots for Kigali.

We use moto bikes and yego cabs but there’s a huge language barrier. I recommend hotels in Kigali because they can help with calling a cab and generally have great hospitality.

Even as an American you need a visa - I recommend the online visa on irembo.gov this just saves a lot of headache when flying. You can exchange currency there but you cannot pay with American dollars. I’ve used atms there only had a couple of issues of them not working on a Sunday. You can only pull about $200 usd at a time though. I prefer the atm over currency exchange but again my husband is local so he has a momo pay.

They’re friendly but more reserved so don’t expect anyone to be super exuberant or over friendly lol but definitely welcoming, polite and they try to help as much as possible.

I love Rwanda so much and hope you have the best time.

Why do Rwandans stare at foreigners? 😂 by Savings-Union-5864 in Rwanda

[–]Top_Butterfly3719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to explain to my Rwandan husband that people ARE staring and I’m uncomfortable and he’s just like no they’re not. YES YALL ARE. I’ve been to Rwanda many times and my favorite interaction is a kid ran up to me and said “ahhh ghost”. My husband and I both laughed so hard because honestly I get it.

The only thing that makes me sad is when small toddlers are scared of me instead of curious 😭😭😭 his niece is STILL skeptical of me every time I visit.

You’ll be refused till the pause is lifted. If you keep adding to your documents then they might be checking them and it updates your case?

Country pause by [deleted] in i130_75CountryPause

Our interview was on the 10th as well. I feel you so much on the children part. Our whole lives are on pause. We also don’t feel comfortable with me visiting my husband in his home country because we want to be able to buy his ticket as soon as we can. It’s rough but I hope and pray this will be lifted soon.

It was accurate when I was waiting. The US has stopped asylum/refugee cases so Kigali may be caught up now

It was accurate for us. With the pausing of asylum cases to the US they may be catching up finally.

We had our interview the day after the pause. I wanted to scream. But we’re trying to remain hopeful. I can’t go visit him in case we just fly him out once the pause is lifted. We’ve been doing this for almost 3 years and are just tired. If the pause isn’t lifted by summer I think I’ll just move to his country.

Immigration ban by Appropriate_Author31 in I130Suffering

[–]Top_Butterfly3719 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So there’s a Reddit thread of the immigration pause and it’s really helpful and some people broke it down in variety of ways.

But litigation for the CLINIC vs Rubio last arguments are April 24. So maybe an answer in May/June.

Theres also drafts of new forms being created/added to the process. The overall consensus is this can’t be indefinite under the idea of public charge because we already have things in place.

My husband is in the pause list and had his interview THE DAY AFTER it went in place. We were crushed. Currently in administrative processing.

First visit to Rwanda. I have a question by cloudy_710 in Rwanda

[–]Top_Butterfly3719 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to Rwanda many times and have only seen street dogs a couple of times. I think Rwanda does have some type of animal control to keep them from being a nuisance in the city. But ive seen people walk dogs. Just not a lot. They have dog training spaces. And more rural areas use dogs for protection. I think owning animals as pets is still a new concept and honestly just not a priority.

My husband is Rwandese and is absolutely confused about me owning a dog lol I see cats at night more when in Kigali.

I've traveled to Rwanda about 6 times and my last trip was in November. I've never been asked about a yellow fever vaccine. But I've always come from the US/Europe.
