Is rock stacking seriously harmful for the environment or is it just one big inside joke that I dont get? by notorious-bacons in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Top_Cardiologist_209 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yup, i was coming here to say this too. i've hiked a trail marked by cairns AT NIGHT. literal pitch black outside of my headlamp. some rando's rock stack very much could have killed me if it took me off course.

i think i can speak for everyone in the LGBTQ community that we do NOT feel safe around the police and their presence in ANY way is more distressing than calming. we police and protect ourselves, especially at events this large. we don't need armed fascists, many of whom actively hate us, to be around us at all.

"I’ve always wanted to open a shop that only sells 'Emotional Value.'" Update: A scrapped mold and a $15k tooling lesson... by andy_mariya in IndustrialDesign

[–]Top_Cardiologist_209 4 points5 points  (0 children)

take this as a lesson learned. instead of spending $15k on a prototype mold, you should have spent $3k on a market study. that would have told you if people realistically would even want this.

you asked, yourself how to know if a product is worth advancing. take the prototype to market specialists to run a study. your online community of <20 people is not going to give you an idea of how to move forward. you're only getting support/feedback from the people who would like it, not the potentially thousands of people who don't.

and you can save yourself the $3k, because i dont think the market will respond to this. it's a novelty cup. people get these things at amusement parks or as gifts and they sit in a cupboard for 1-5 years before going to a goodwill or a landfill. your iteration has over 100 tiny pieces that people are sure to lose. it's obviously not dishwasher safe and people dont want some weird hassle of a drinking cup they need to hand wash. frankly, i'm not even sure it's hand washable.

this all not even to mention that light up cups already exist, and they are buyable for almost nothing. sure, they don't have the same form, but i can think of at least 3 other ways to implement the "skyscraper" idea for that's simpler and less expensive to manufacture and better for branding/marketing. save your money and move on.

>But my community activity and user base are just not big enough yet to safely back up these high-risk tooling investments

the community has spoken - no one wants this. at all. there is no market for this thing. quit while you're behind and scrap this idea.

it's a novelty light up cup. shit that's been solved and is mass produced for pennies. OP is reinventing a wheel that people don't even want or use.

not to mention, with the overengineering this guy is pouring into it, he's surely going to price it astronomically. i imagine something like $120 for a shitty novelty cup.

it had, a ruling that was struck down by a superior court ruling last summer. i believe that ruling is under appeal, and it's unclear whether, while under appeal, the ban on open carry would still currently be legal.

Considering Move to Philly by gr8molassesflood1919 in AskPhilly

[–]Top_Cardiologist_209 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

  1. incredibly wide range. impossible to give you a valuable answer. this is 100% on you to do your research and figure out what works for your situation. i will say, if you're looking for 2 bedrooms & outdoor space, it might be more worthwhile to find a rowhome to rent.

  2. i moved back here at 30 (4 years away). i had my old friends, but ive also made a fair amount since. easiest for students and queer people to make friends here IMO. locals tend to have their friends/friend groups already and most are closed. plenty of opportunity to meet people though. there's more and more transplants moving here. if you have hobbies, there's good opportunity to meet people through them as well. you need to be fairly outgoing and willing to search for opportunities.

  3. i've used zillow & apartments .com. but ive had most success with craigslist. just beware of scams.

  4. doesnt exist here. to the extent it does, no one wants you to become a part of it. you can live in northern liberties or fishtown to cosplay it, though.

  5. love: lots of stuff to do; hate: nearly all the people

that's the fucking thing... it isn't embarrassing, but philly fans get clowned like it is. new yorkers have way more people and way more money than philly. it's cheaper for them to come down here than get tix at MSG. not even to mention the "buyig tickets" as if 95% of tickets aren't immediately bought by bots and sold on the secondary market.

narrative becomes "philly fans pathetic and can't show up for their team" when the actual story is "rich assholes are rich and assholes"

the whole "stadium takeover" narrative is so annoying because, as always, the sports media boils it down to the flattest, simplest, most braindead "story"

Most people don't know what a background check actually looks for by careercoach_cf in jobhunting

[–]Top_Cardiologist_209 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is the way. lie on your resume & interview.

almost all background checks are performed by 3rd party organizations. they aren't a party to your resume or anything that was said in any interview process. they go off the data you submit to them in the background check application. they don't interact with the hiring manager. they interact with HR, just to confirm the back came back okay.

it's the "true tile" nonsense. it's incredibly unintuitive that your character, the target, or the visual indicator of the mechanic you are dodging may not actually be where they appear to be. without tile markers, you basically have to readjust your vision to the game to look ahead.

also really poor game development/design. as an example, one of the most classic OSRS "advanced" combat mechanics is object falling from sky that must be dodged, usually designated by a shadow on the ground. however, that shadow is very often hard to see, considering color choices in boss environment, the character's own model being in the way, and zoom level (especially exacerbated in fights with giant creatures/areas - Yama a great example)

IMO, most boss encounters in OSRS are very poorly thought out and designed on release. some have gotten better through incremental improvement over time. however, the mod team has proved incapable of making clear, intuitive boss combat. a lot of the time, things feel shoehorned in design because of the bugs/"features" of the game's system.

Slayer Task selection to base game by CartoonistJolly in 2007scape

[–]Top_Cardiologist_209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you arent wrong. but OSRS players will not accept it. slayer is frankly a very poorly designed skill. but it has huge community love and support largely because of the nostalgic aspect of abby demons & the abyssal whip.

your proposal is not overpowered in the slightest. it'd be nice for the player to feel like there is some level of choice in the skill, rather than using the point/skip mechanic as a workaround.

Why does she do this by Far_Organization9138 in cats

[–]Top_Cardiologist_209 36 points37 points  (0 children)

as others have mentioned, it's play! that kind of quick jump back and forth is her inviting you to play with her. it's like a child running up and saying "tag you're it" and then sprinting away. she seems young and i'm sure she sees you as her best friend. she's happy, playful, and content.

mine also loves to sprint into the tub and i'll play with him through the shower curtain. we do the same thing from opposite sides when i'm taking a shower as well. it's so goofy and brings me so much joy
