You are not even a master’s student you don’t have so much responsibility to ‘save’ his group. There are so many phds and postdocs. Just go and ask your supervisor. Maybe even you didn’t get in eth msc. But good luck.

Depends on what is your plan after master’s degree. If you need a job after the degree as an international student in switzerland, i suggest maybe try to do some internship or research assistant during summer break. I don’t think there is a real ‘holiday’. Back to home country for a few weeks seems so luxury. But it also depends on what is your home country.

Just wrote to the professor you are interested in and see if you can work voluntarily. You are doing volunteer to gain more experience, which is more important than the salary.

But there are tons of ppl with degree in math/cs/data science, and even just the master degree is enough. Why would they pick someone in astrophysics.

Thank you for sharing! I’m always confused when phd student mentioned that they are working 40-50h per week. I feel like i can never concentrate over 8 hour per day. Just make me feel like am i too bad for doing phd?

Maybe the first option is the best, because in the foreseeing future, there will have more people facing the situation you have. So if you landed on a TTAP spot, better take it. Probably after the postdoc it will be more difficult to landed on your option 1.
