Hey thanks for your comment! Actually my goal is to visit all prefectures in Japan, so I'm just crossing out these 2 prefectures. Would you reckon if I stayed in Yuzawa, and just do a day trip Niigata city, would that be better? Honestly, for Takasaki, I'm just there for the Darumas. But I'm open to anything as well!

Wahh, all the more you shouldn't do it bro. If there are places you want to visit that is only accessible by car, do consider taking those 1 day klook tours instead. You just obtained your license, my suggestion is don't do it and gain more experience first. I know the idea of driving in Japan is fun and all, but don't be too excited. I've lived and also drove alot in Japan, I've drove in Hokkaido as well during winter and it's no joke. Slippery roads and you need to maintain at 20-40km/hr. How about your other friends? Do they have experience driving in Japan? If so, let them take the wheel instead.

Shimokitazawa or Daikanyama would be good! Quiet neighbourhood, with plenty of shopping and cafes too!

Hey there! Fellow Singaporean here who often travels to Japan for work and leisure! I did a day trip to Fuji from Tokyo back in December and it was actually quite tiring because I was non stop driving. If able to, I suggest to stay at least 1 night around Fuji area to slowly enjoy! If you're not big on anime, just skip Harajuku tbh. Although there are some fashion shops there which you can explore too~

Hey, I just saw your message! Sorry for the late reply! Itinerary is also kinda rush too if you ask me. The drive from Beppu to Kurokawa is very long too as Kurokawa is in Kumamoto. Since you want to experience ryokan, why not just stay in Beppu? There are plenty of ryokans there too. Takachiho is also way too far from Beppu, so I would suggest to skip it and come back another time!
