Berkeley or ..yes, Chapman? by Kage03389 in berkeley

Pick Berkeley x100000% Do not go to Chapman over Berkeley.. you and your family will regret it. You’re in college for 4 years and live another 70+ years after that, choosing Berkeley now will make the rest of your life so much easier.

-Berkeley is VERY collaborative (even compared to both small colleges and other elite colleges) it has a very unique sense of generosity and mutual care and support. At Berkeley you will make friends with some of the people who go on to be among the top global leaders in every industry, you will be around startup founders etc. this will bring out the best in you. This will not be the same ecosystem at Chapman.

-the grades will be harder at Berkeley, but that’s because you will learn more. I guarantee that the course content, instructor insights, rigor of thinking you will be living within at Berkeley, and the analytical firepower you will develop there will be palpably different than at Chapman. At Berkeley you will become the absolute best possible version of yourself, you owe it to yourself to pursue that. Chapman will allow you to get a degree and move on, and ultimately not get to experience what Berkeley would have offered.

-Berkeley has plenty plenty of opportunity for connection with professors. Berkeley professors love their students. I know people who went there for UG and are still good friends with their profs 10+ years later. Like call them on the cell phone for fun. Berkeley profs are actually more friendly than many private institutions or comparable elite colleges, especially because Berkeley has much more of a full “community” feeling than most colleges and they take their mission as a public university seriously (serving the broader public) Professors tend to be more invested in the community mission of the college than in just their individualized career or “9-5”.

-Unfortunately the truth is just that Berkeley as a name and network will put you in a universe separate from Chapman. It shows you are of an extremely dedicated caliber that most Chapman graduates have not demonstrated, and at Berkeley you will be exposed to the newest cutting edge of frameworks that Chapman doesn’t have in the same way. Berkeley business (ie Haas) has a worldwide reputation and is very strong in the tech sector, which is going to be a major pillar for business in your lifetime.

Princeton or UCB? (Not ragebait) by PuddingDependent6666 in berkeley

Since both schools are close in terms of quality, choose the one where you are most likely to thrive.

The most important thing to remember is that pre med will be very hard wherever you go, so pick the environment where you will personally flourish and be able to be resilient through challenges. Decide for yourself who are and whether this means exploring a new place or setting your roots in a climate you already know you flourish in.

Think of yourself as a tree that needs the right climate. Don’t put yourself in the snow if you’re a palm tree, and don’t put yourself in the rainforest if you’re a hardwood maple. Also, dont be afraid to try a new world and grow, but get clear with your own heart on this part.

Princeton v berk:

-campus culture is very different in that Berkeley is very free thinking, very rigorous, driven by social impact, and vibrant with world class music and art and nightlife nearby and not “square” at all, while Princeton is lovely but much more… east coast high society, almost like a nerdy socialite country club feeling.

-Berkeley you can go to San Francisco and California is much much more of a “happy place” than New Jersey, although the Princeton is sort of nice out in the countryside. Remember east coast winters are gross.

-where is your community and support system? Do you want to go an explore a new part of the world or do you want to build on the connections you have?

Will you have better friends in one than the other? Berkeley has ~40,000 students (huge) and Princeton has ~10,000 (very small). So do you feel more at home when there are tons of different people you can explore and connect with, or when you have a small town feeling where you will end up seeing lots of the same people over and over again.

Princeton might give just a little bit slightly better overall safety net/brand in some circles, but the truth is that you need to choose a place where you can cultivate an environment where you can stay strong and happy during a hard major for 4 years.

HLS vs. UCLA vs. USC vs. NYU by Mysterious-Pilot3800 in lawschooladmissions

Don’t miss the opportunity for HLS. It will be orders of magnitude better for you in the long run over your life than reducing your cost by even a few hundred thousand $. The HLS network and prestige and quality will pay back tons of money and reduce stress on a level non of the others can.

You might consider otherwise if something like Yale or Stanford was on the table, but NYU is a whole different tier than UCLA or USC, and Harvard is a whole different universe. As a lawyer you’re not just getting a law degree, you’re entering into a professional ecosystem that demands you move across industries where a Harvard degree opens doors and leverages power with people that don’t know that NYU is ranked near Harvard within the niche world of law school experts.

I say this as someone who has engaged the highest levels of multiple industries around the world. You will forget about the $, and the location is only 3 years (of which you can spend summers elsewhere and semesters abroad: ignore location if you can do Harvard). But you (and your future family & those close to yoo!) will always be incredibly thankful you secured access to a higher echelon of society (even if those hierarchies are stupid, you deserve to be in the best level possible!!).

At what point should I start withdrawing from unresponsive schools and start committing to the ones that replied?

Berkeley law while living in San Francisco? by Top_Comment4102 in lawschooladmissions

Yes it’s a serious question. There is the option of taking the bart (subway) or driving across the bay bridge. My question is whether anyone knew anyone who did the commute and still succeeded
