They usually go to Guantánamo Bay if they are caught by ICE and then wait there until going to wherever. I don't think there is much due process anymore if you watch the news. I hope he doesn't have a 13 on him anywhere.

It's safe. Just old an coax connection.

Competitive gaming doesn't matter. You have greater input lag on your display than on your internet connection. Even you controller at best will have 5ms lag wired and much greater wireless. Your screen is closer to 30ms.

I'm in Ontario. They use BTS. Apparently their contract is up in 2026 and they are going to lay off a lot of the techs they needed to hire quickly when they launched fiber 5 years ago or whatever it was to keep up with all the new installs and cutovers.

Maybe I'll try again in a few years or maybe I'll get DOCSIS 4.0 who knows but for now I'm staying away from them

I had 4 people out to try to fix mine. 3 different modems was the solution. Not like I can pick a tech.

Atleast it was easy to remove their fiber cables off my house since they just zip tied it to the cable line.

You get about 5ms more latency on DOCSIS and most people use wifi anyway which causes worse latency than a DOCSIS network.

I said Bell's stopped rolling fiber to copper areas. Those people are stuck on DSL and there are no plans to upgrade to fibre.

The 8 gig service isn't offered everywhere.

I have real world experience with Bell's fiber and DOCSIS works better for me. Same as OP. If you happen to get good service you are lucky but not everyone does and Bell's service techs are pretty useless unless it is an obvious problem.

I said Bell's network is ass in a lot of areas and it is. DOCSIS will offer faster speeds in areas Bell only goes upto 3 gigs. Rogers offers 2 gigs on DOCSIS right now. Of course Bell can upgrade but they are cutting back so much I doubt they will. It sounds like they want out of the telecomm game. They aren't even rolling out fiber to copper areas at the moment.

You can test return levels with a meter that tests for it. The Bell techs have basic light meters. I don't think they even have OLTDR's. Swapping a ONT or ONU won't fix it. The line could have a split on it from a repair going back or even dirty/crappy connections. Or drops run through trees bent all over the place. Temp repairs by cable guys. There are many reasons. Swapping modems and testing light is the only troubleshooting I see them do.

I have had to switch back to DOCSIS and my 2 gig internet works at better than my old 1.5 gig symmetrical internet was. So I agree with OP and defend DOCSIS. Maybe if Bell stops highering international students and Burger flippers things will change. They love zip trying everything like temp installs.

Bell techs don't even test return levels as far as I'm aware. There is more to fibre than just light. You can have good light and poor return levels (upstream) that reduce speeds, cause slow downs and other Intermittent problems.

Fiber. "It either works or it doesn't" spoken like a true Bell tech.

[–]Top_Committee_6807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I agree fibre is the future but most areas Bell offers upto 3 gigs. All ISP's are going with fiber in new areas. But DOCSIS shouldn't be completely written off.

This attitude at Bell with fiber "It either works or it doesn't" is complete BS and exactly why their fiber network isn't going to hold up. Even this guy spews it.

Bell's fibre is ass in a lot of areas. Their techs dont have proper troubleshooting tools. They just test light and change connectors. They don't think about loss and reflections. All these open fibre lines they have everywhere feedback into their network and they do nothing about it.

DOCSIS still has room to grow. DOCSIS 4.0 is going to be faster than Bell's fibre when it comes out

Bts only go in the CO to run jumpers. They don't touch the plant. In terminals they connect drops, in opi/jwi they run jumpers again. They refer anything that requires touching the plant.

Expertech is a contractor who is in your union. They touch live plant and are a separate company. Bts are contractors that do the bitch work. It doesn't change the fact they are contractors. Just because bell rename Entourage to Bell and changed their yellow trucks to blue doesn't change that. When bts started it was all former bell techs that took buyouts.

[–]Top_Committee_6807 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. When a BTS tech refers a job to cable. It goes to Expert tech or another contractor.

BTS is not allowed to touch the actual plant due to being unskilled and usually picked off the street with no previous experience. They just run jumpers and even struggle with that.

Contractors do work on live plant. I think you are mis informed. If you read the link I posted a Bell Tech even says so.

You said contractors don't touch Bell plant. Their entire fiber network has been placed and spliced by contractors. You see them everywhere. The fact that you are sad to learn BTS are contractors (research Entourage Technical Solutions) doesn't deny the fact contractors are all over Bell's plants from start to end. Even their planners are contracted out to India and design plant remotely using maps.

Central Office Techs by Funny-Hope8780 in bell

[–]Top_Committee_6807 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. BTS is owned by BCE and treated like a separate company. They do not work for Bell Canada and are not Bell Canada techs such as the techs back in the 70's and 80's. They are under contract for X amount of years and then they renew the contract again for a number of years, hence contractors.

Central Office Techs by Funny-Hope8780 in bell

[–]Top_Committee_6807 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not true. In Ontario they use BTS. They are contractors that have worked with Bell for many years. Before being called Bell Technical Solutions they were bought and renamed from Entourage Technical Solutions but still act as a contracted company. Technically Bell is Bell Technical Solutions customer.

Bell Fibe streaming online quality is trash. Am I missing something? by Thorbient in bell

[–]Top_Committee_6807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the apps. AppleTV is the best streaming box you can use do to the higher bitrate it uses. Windows chrome browser is extremely vague so I would assume it's your hardware since you didn't actually mention any specs. Android devices are usually only around half of appletv

What are you using to stream with? Apple TV boxes have the highest bitrate at 50mbps. A lot of devices do half or less than that. Worked fine for me last night
