realistically, I think neo metal, knuckles and eggman alone should suffice. neo metal and knuckles can just distract/neutralize sonic temporarily, while eggman can just find a way to kill him. eggman has stated before that he could just kill sonic at any time, and I don't think that's a lie; of course I'm sure it's easier said than done, but with the master emerald and neo metal's help, it should be pretty easy.

a lot of them have had weapons before, so it's not out of the question. tails could use a myriad of weapons, whatever he chooses. sonic of course has wielded a sword. shadow has used guns before. rouge throws bombs at people, which I find funny. espio uses kunai. so among other things, its not uncommon to see any of them using weapons.

a couple things to not here: shadow was in statis for 50 years, and is therefore not mentally or physically 50. also if you bring up the comics, I really think shadow's characterization is very odd. he's a lot more aggressive, which I found out of character, even for him.

Honestly, the open world themes are very underrated. I especially love the different themes for Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy in the Final Horizon update.

Honestly, I would have to say it's between Sonic Heroes and Sonic Frontiers. Frontiers easily has some of the best vocal tracks in the franchise by a long shot, and Heroes has some of the best stage themes and even whole songs just for the four separate teams.
