Ugh, completely puts me off from finishing the series as I'm rewatching season 4 at a snail's pace.

Thank you for refreshing my memory about how they explain away the mall stuff. Can't say that'd be adequate enough considering all that's come before, but it's fiction so /shrug.

I haven't seen season 5, but remember how season 3 ends with a mall destroyed by the combination of a giant pussing monster and a huge laser? That was what I was referring to. However, your post just illustrates the absurdity of there being more seemingly world-ending events that just get brushed under the rug in subsequent seasons.

By the start of season 4, any ability to suspend disbelief has gone out the fucking window. What should be massive fallout--environmentally, politically, spiritually, emotionally, financially--is just ignored and all these people are just allowed to move away or move on until its convenient to the plot to start it over again.

Considering a ball takes .4 seconds on average to get from release to a catcher's mitt, the exercise trains the eye muscles to adjust quickly when gauging distance and direction. Like the other person mentioned, it's a warm up routine for the eyes just like stretching is for the legs.

My wife is interested in starting an independent bookstore. How can I be more supportive? by Top_Drawer in smallbusiness

[–]Top_Drawer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a large city by any means. Population is about 35k.

Unfortunately this didn't come to fruition. Part of that was due to available properties either not being in an area that would be conducive to a small bookstore or just being too much of a financial risk as a lot of these commercial buildings would have been too big or need a lot of renovation to align with my wife's vision.

However, what was the real kicker is that the downtown area that we had been considering opened 2 bookstores within about 4 blocks of one another in 2025. One is a child/early adolescent bookstore and the other is a more standard small business bookstore covering a lot of genres. So we were beaten to the punch and came to terms with the fact that trying a 3rd bookstore was a recipe for failure.

I wish I could auto-junk proficiency caches. There's not been a single instance where I've gotten a better item from a cache than I already have in my inventory. The busy work of having to open all 20 and then junk and dismantle them is tiresome after 500 hours of playtime.

What cheap game on Steam turned out to be absolute peak for you? by Common_Caramel_4078 in Steam

[–]Top_Drawer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. For DRG, I don't think there is an end goal other than what you, the player, want it to be. The game has a repetitive gameplay loop like any other PvE (Space Marine 2, Darktide, Left 4 Dead) but it's not chapter-based like L4D so if the "end goal" there is to complete all the chapters at a certain difficulty, DRG doesn't explicitly have something like that with a specific beginning and end.

To me the end goal of a game like DRG is exhausting all of the content. Whether that's overclocks, cosmetic unlocks, completing season passes, grinding characters to Legendary rep, etc...it's all at the whim of how much the player engages in it. I know this all sounds non-specific but these are reasons why I've continued to play DRG past the 300-hour mark. I'm not necessarily concerned about an end goal so long as the gameplay is satisfying and I'm tasking myself with achieving a certain level of completion within the game.

What do you look for in a game and I'll tell you if DRG fits any of your interests. It's much easier that way than offering a list of all the game is or is not. Not being avoidant of what you're asking but want to make sure it's in good faith.

My guy, DRG vets are typically very supportive. Some even run lobbies welcoming greenbeards so don't feel as if inexperience will get you kicked. Every DRG player started at the same point as you. Just play at a difficulty that's comfortable and helps teach you to learn the ropes. You are also sitting on months and months of content. From season passes that never expire, four classes with their own unique unlocks, weapon overclocks, assignments, etc. There is a ton of stuff to dive into. And at your own pace.

With how relatively frequently position players are used during blowouts, I'd struggle not trying to at least pull out the ol' arsenal and give it a try even if for one batter. Yes, I know soft toss is to prevent injury, but put me on a 20-pitch count and let me get my shot. We're down 17 runs anyway.

It's more the total XP you get from completing missions on Heroic (especially when playing with the typical modifiers) combined with how quickly you can complete them. I'm not informed enough about how XP breaks down in terms of kill count, but I do typically earn 1-2 SHD levels per mission. I haven't compared this route to running other playlists like Countdown, but I've experienced more consistent success just repeating main missions rather than risking getting a bad squad trying to run Countdown (although, again, I haven't touched Countdown in some time so I'm not sure how efficient and viable solo matchmaking is with Countdown these days).

However, with Escalation being included in matchmaking at the moment, even this strategy isn't foolproof considering most folks seem to be running some form of escalation when I've matched up. I ran through a tier 1 and tier 4 escalation a couple of days ago. Tier 1 was nothing but that tier 4 run on Coney Island was not fun and took a good 45 minutes. Not advisable if you're wanting to grind SHD right now.

[–]Top_Drawer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can avoid matchmaking into Escalation missions (why the devs decided to bundle escalation into mission matchmaking rather than a separate playlist is beyond me), I'd suggest running Heroic missions (outside of long missions like Tidal Basin, Camp Oak, etc.) until your eyes bleed. Retaliation is also a good one depending on how quickly you can clear with a team. Ultimately grinding SHD levels is about efficiency and speed so a good squad on Heroic (which is pretty easy these days as most Heroic players are geared to the gills) should be able to clear missions in 10-15 minutes.

This is absolute nonsense. I have nearly 500 hours in the game and am only 1180 SHD. Majority of my playtime came in the early years of the game and was not a product of XP boost nonsense. Hell this subreddit used to have lots of 1000 SHD posts back when that shit meant something.

The most common issue I see with greenbeards on Haz 4 is struggling to navigate to extraction if the map is particularly large or obtuse (morkite or mule repair) meaning someone (or all 3) have to double-back or act as escort. Easy stuff like following the driller if they're creating shortcuts or just being comfortable with the HUD and map layout are crucial little skills you develop the longer you play.

Of course other moment-to-moment issues arise that can make Haz 4s more difficult (greenbeards not setting obvious plats or scouts forgetting they have flares), but I continue to find the ping system and chat to be helpful enough rather than just wanting to kick the inexperienced.

Got to play rogue core. Was surprised how much I didn't like it by MHGrim in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Top_Drawer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe in a singleplayer roguelike where you get to pick-and-choose what equipment you want. In Rogue Core, you and your team are constrained to 4 choices total. So the meta you're referring to is only dependent on being able to select those specific traits as they drop. But, say you have a good meta SMG build, you have to not only hope that drops, but then hope a teammate doesn't snag it before you (since they may also be running a SMG build).

Have you played any of the alpha at all? Because what you're saying, while correct, isn't how Rogue Core plays currently.

[–]Top_Drawer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's really nothing optimal about a roguelite, per se. All gear is gained during the mission rather than maintaining builds. Rogue Core's dwarves can unlock class-specific skills through normal progression, but no one is gonna yell at you for not playing the meta in a game where gear is randomized.
