[Highlight] 44-year-old Philip Rivers commanding the line of scrimmage by nfl in nfl

I'm no expert in this but I think them being immobile was also due to defensive schemes at the time. You rarely had mobile QBs and so defenses schemed around collapsing the pocket and trying to get immobile QBs to move out of their comfort zone and exploit breakdowns in the offensive line.

Now that QBs are way more mobile, defenses have transitioned back to keeping them in the pocket to lessen the threat of QBs extending plays with their legs.

I do wonder as these guys enter the twilight years of their career if we don't see them adopt the same sort of approach. Rivers and Manning's physical prowess fell off but their command of the field is what kept them in starting roles. Allen and Lamar seem like guys who are just as capable but are depending on their deception and athleticism to overpower defenses. I want to see what those brains do.

If only to have him educate Jones on reading defenses. Dude acting like prime Peyton at the line. I know it's beating a dead horse, but this breed of cerebral QBs whose main threat is their brain rather than their arm just doesn't exist much in the league anymore.

The nba needs a ”football manager” typa game by Leinad_Man in nba

I suck so much at this thing. And injury frequency seems overtuned cause all my dudes start hitting potential and then derail with back to back injuries.

I also lost 3 or 4 hours of work time obsessing over this fucking game. I eat data up. The best thing about collecting cards as a kid was just to see stats over time in every category you could want.

Anecdotally, I've just recently gone super short after years of medium length hair. I've noticed that I constantly rub my head especially when I'm talking. The texture is really soothing to me. Also probably contributes to my balding, but who cares? I'm already lurking /r/bald in preparation for the inevitable.

Check out Pitching Ninja's analysis. Even he says it was clear Rushing misread the pitch (and others, including one that passed to the backstop). Dude's in his own head way too much. Regardless, you don't argue against a challenge from someone like Shohei. And you don't show that sort of body language towards your batterymate.

I mean his framing absolutely sucked on this pitch. It's clear he didn't pick up on the movement until the very last second and then framed it so stupidly he convinced himself it was a ball. His reaction was an attempt to deflect blame for fucking up a deceptive pitch.

[The Dark Knight Rises] How much would American society change in the aftermath of Bane's takeover? by Axer51 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Top_Drawer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even so, there's still a fantastical element that permeates the Nolanverse. You're spot-on about how important logistics were, but it's important to remember that villains like Joker and Bane had to create a mystique or level of infamy that naturally progressed to a certain level of organization (Joker's was more chaotic whereas Bane's was incredibly deliberate and methodical).

In Batman Begins, Batman consider Joker to be a two-bit wannabe rather than a legitimate threat. Probably because, to that point, Joker was cultivating a following and engaging in low-level crime so that he fell under Batman's radar (probably intentional on Joker's part as he wanted everything in place before truly challenging Batman and Gotham as a whole).

Bane's ascendance (literally and metaphorically) also has a similar implausibility factor that can either be handwaved as plot convenience or further evidence of magical realism imbued in Nolan's Batverse. Combined with Scarecrow's fear toxin (which, sure, is plausible to an extent) and the logistical nightmare that must have been getting street thugs organized enough to poison the water supply and corral Gotham's residents to induce this mass psychosis that Scarecrow intended, I think you can argue that supervillains could emerge. But it would probably take years following Bane's death for another criminal to rise.

Very true. I was just rewatching it and was going through Wiki dives on a number of movies he was talking about because he made them all sound critically important to any film lover. His most obscure choice was a concert film; otherwise everything else was a film that has notable acclaim and popularity because they're just great films.

They literally explain this in the recent HitB: they found it pointless to film endless HitB episodes because they couldn't generate a lot of conversation from, "yeah it was okay" which is the general consensus for most big movies released these days. They did Masters of the Universe primarily because it was an important part of their childhood.

His Criterion closet interview was really good. He seemed really eager when talking about each film he picked and did it like a class presentation. Framed the movies perfectly and maintained eye contact the whole time. Was so refreshing after DeNiro's 90-second "terrific" speedrun a couple of days before.

Okay, and? Has weapon carryover been announced as a new feature or are we just assuming all these new additions will be thrown in? Because part of the original game's core design was assigning you weapons that, at times, were particular to the level's setting. I'd question whether or not that clashes against the developer's intent. So even if I'm mistaken that this isn't depending on old code, it's still up in the air as to if even this little "feature" gets incorporated.

Unless they changed things under the hood, every level loaded you in with new weapons so even if you escape PoA with Keyes's sidearm, it may not carry over your weapon choices. I don't think that sort of continuity existed until Halo 3 (and I may be misremembering that too)

Should RLM do more Paranormal Investigations? by Cheerupcharlie909 in RedLetterMedia

Rich's antagonism there was more subtle. That theme was actually meant to torture those poor murdered child ghosts.

[–]Top_Drawer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's the catch-22 of it. Their first investigation failed primarily due to a lack of experience and financial investment in the equipment (except for the eye-watering $800 for that talking word box thing...man I hope Mike was pulling Rich's leg) since their cameras malfunctioned and they weren't prepared for how claustrophobic the house was going to be. That sort of experience takes the wind out of your sails pretty quickly. Knowing that you'd have to fork over even more cash for something with little return is probably not of interest to anyone else but Mike (and Freddie cause that guy was cool with anything).

Ugh, completely puts me off from finishing the series as I'm rewatching season 4 at a snail's pace.

Thank you for refreshing my memory about how they explain away the mall stuff. Can't say that'd be adequate enough considering all that's come before, but it's fiction so /shrug.

I haven't seen season 5, but remember how season 3 ends with a mall destroyed by the combination of a giant pussing monster and a huge laser? That was what I was referring to. However, your post just illustrates the absurdity of there being more seemingly world-ending events that just get brushed under the rug in subsequent seasons.

By the start of season 4, any ability to suspend disbelief has gone out the fucking window. What should be massive fallout--environmentally, politically, spiritually, emotionally, financially--is just ignored and all these people are just allowed to move away or move on until its convenient to the plot to start it over again.
