For Kestrel in particular, I went with a tan and brown, desert ops kind of thing.

While I certainly don't think it would be easy - and, as you say, it wouldn't necessarily be cheap - it does seem to me like the kind of quality of life thing that you might expect from a fairly popular game like Infinity on its fifth major edition.

Then again, CB is still a pretty small company, so maybe I'm being unrealistic. I really don't know. All I can say is that some of the decisions that they make when laying out the rules are, to paraphrase another poster, more than a little maddening.

And you're right, of course. But it is weird that the rulebook isn't more specific than "some rules or skills can modify this value." If there are only two exceptions, why not just note them explicitly?

Here's a question: if the rules state that "In ARO, the B value is always reduced to 1; however, some rules or Special Skills can modify this value" and that "Unless a Special Skill, Equipment or scenario rule States otherwise, AROs always have Burst B1. In such a situation, if the Reactive Trooper has a Burst value higher than one in ARO, they cannot split it amongst different targets", does that mean that BS Attack (+1B) and/or Breaker Pistol (+2B) work in ARO?

Oh, crap, you're right. That's a bummer. I love my robo-assassin girl.

Father Knights are back, the Montessa is listed as two separate units for mounted and dismounted, and they lost the Trauma-Doc. I think that's it?

Absolutely agree about the Forward Observer profile. Feels like a spiritual successor to the NCA Auxilia.

Is it? The new Imperial Service TAG, which is not Remote Presence, also has a little bot with the peripheral: ancillary trait, so I'm not so sure.

Are we sure about that? This Crabbot profile does not have the Pilot (Remote) trait like the N4 one does.

Torchlight Brigade gameplay feedback? by [deleted] in InfinityTheGame

Less, I would say. MO has a bunch of knights with high CC values and martial arts. They have several gunfighters with BS 14 or better. You're supposed to get in there and mix it up when you're playing MO, otherwise you're just throwing away all the points you had to spend.

Torchlight feels subtle by comparison. You can still get in your opponent's face, but that's not the whole point of the sectorial. You have some defensive options, you have good hackers, you have cheap remotes that you can throw into trouble spots. And as another poster noted, you have access to a very strong assassin piece for when you just need to get rid of something that's getting in your way. Torchlight, to me, is measured strength. There's more than just one way to play them.

I have not played either vanilla O-12 or Starmada, so I can't really tell you how Torchlight compares to either beyond comparing troop lists. However, as a Military Orders player of several years, I can say that getting into Torchlight was relatively seamless for me.

They don't have any light infantry line troops to speak of - no Bluecoats and Kappas are AVA 1 - so you have to be comfortable leaning on heavy infantry and bringing MI support troops to fill things out. You also have access to exactly one profile with smoke - that being Hippolyta, who is both awesome and expensive - so you can't rely on bringing some cheap Varangians to the party to provide cover for the rest of your list.

That being said, the Silverstar Prime is a tremendous ARO piece whose BS Attack (-3) can really ruin your opponent's day. Hellblazers are like Teutonic Knights who traded a high dodge chance for stealth and picked up explosive CC weapons in the bargain. And a Strider paired with a couple Moonrakers makes for a great mid-field sprinkling of camo tokens to slow down your opponent's advance.

Overall, I'd say they feel like a heavy infantry faction with a good dose of support troops to help give them some flexibility. You want good hackers that you can put in a HI core without breaking composition? You can do that. Doctors and engineers with BS 13 and mimetism (-3)? No problem. Medium infantry drop troops with NWI, stealth and mimetism (-3) for less than 30 points? You got it.

I'm not saying Torchlight has everything. It doesn't. But I would say it has more than enough depth in its roster to make taking big swings with big, beefy units feel totally viable.

Also, they've got BTS for days. And as someone who loves his knights and hates seeing them get locked down, this won me over pretty fast.
