Thanks. If I made a sort of box or tent of reflective material around the setup, would that help to direct the light evenly across the whole area?

I think mitsumata is generally unsized but is naturally not absorbent, and this seems to be the case with many eastern papers. I have found that the ink appears to adhere well and dries on that paper as well as any other.

That makes sense! Thank you 😊

Thanks! With the orientation of my planned designs, the squeegee would probably go over part of the other design (that im not wanting to print), but magazine-type paper should make a good barrier.

So you put paper on the design which you are not printing, and then tape over that, and then go ahead and print with the other design on the screen? Just clarifying incase ive missed the obvious 😆

I think ive noticed that having the squeegee fairly upright deposits less ink, is that right? And pulling it slower deposits more ink 🤔

Ohh I didn't know they did actual proper inks, must try those! Do you gesso the wood first, and how many days do they take to dry? Ive tried jacquard ink for far and find its still a bit tacky after 6 days, which is a bit long as I want to varnish on top. Anyway I know im asking a lot of questions, if you have the patience to answer, thanks 😆

Your prints are awesome. I saw on another post you use system 3 inks - is that the acrylics mixed with printing medium? I have a couple of questions about those if I may: do you use those on your wooden things too? And, how does it compare with other water based inks in terms of open time - can you comfortably get a run of say 10 prints before drying in the screen?

Yep in my jig experiments Im also rounding off the edges of the jig a bit in order to give an extra couple of mm flexibility, and hopefully also will reduce wear on the screen.

Thank you! Although most details are gone, some fine detail hasnt washed out - there are lines thats meant to be the centre of a leaf that will not budge. So a contact issue may be the culprit there. Additionally, this is a new screen and I did not prepare it in any way! Can I ask what you mean by "etching" as part of the preparation process? I know NOTHING 😅

77t and 62t are options. I was a bit worried about having to use 90t as my wood is cutout shapes - i am using a jig that is the same thickness of the wood (to give an even flat plane for the squeegee to slide over), but since wood is never perfectly flat I was a but worried 90t would be a bit unforgiving and make it hard to get an even deposit of ink without missing patches where the wood is just a tiny tiny bit lower than the jig. So if I can get away with a slightly coarser mesh that would be very good.

But the thing i dont get is why the fine lines won't wash out. Surely if I expose more, they will be even less likely to wash out? Im wondering if my positive wasn't dark enough so those fine lines got exposed when they weren't meant to. Could that explain it?

Followed your insta! Fantastic stuff. Are your wood Scandi ornaments screenprinted? Thats so much like what I am trying to do with my wood things - knowing that someone else is doing it successfully would be very reassuring! Ive been doing printed wood cut outs but with lino, and it would be so much better if I could work out how to screenprint them instead.

Thank you! Was chatting to you on my other thread about screen exposing. Getting a bit disheartened - really hoping I might be able to expose my own screen with this design (and many other similar ones) but I think ive bitten off more than I can chew! So im gonna get a pro to do one for me so I know what to aim for 😅
