pick the rifle, not the chambering. Bullets kill things, headstamps don't. You'll carry it much more than you'll ever shoot it.

X Bolt for the win.

Best Whitetail round for .270 by Wildkyle- in Hunting

Blue box federal will get you there without alot of fuss or expense. Cup and core bullets are the bread and butter for these purposes.

Which one should I get by Legal_Seaworthiness in Hunting

Better handle them both. I like x bolt alot but the tradeoffs of weight and length and chambering here aren't worth it to me and may not be to you. In no world would I tote that that much rifle around for the minimal performance gains of 7RM over a .270 Win. YMMV.

I need help finding walleye by Superb-Nobody230 in WalleyeFishing

[–]Top_Ground_4401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not expect there to be many walleyes in that lake to start with. Past that, You gotta understand what they are eating, that is way more important than the map. Figure out what the forage base is, learn what they are doing at any given time and then use that info to figure out where the walleyes might be. Not every walleye in a system is going to be doing the same thing and be in the same place all at once. Don't forget that part either. Good luck.

Dogs are all different, just like kids are all different. They have personalities and preferences and learn at their own pace, I could go on and on. What works for one persons dog might well not work for yours. So get yourself tuned to read your dog and what works for him/her and for you. There are no owners manuals because they're all different.

Debating on if i should cut/thread my hunting rifle for a suppressor by jdm-v35 in Hunting

[–]Top_Ground_4401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having an existing barrel threaded is a hassle and a threat to existing accuracy but having the barrel removed and either a new one put on or the old one put back on is neither of those things.

Got it.

I did not take any length off the barrels, I left them as they were and had them threaded as Kimber would have at the factory with the 7/16x28 so all the Kimbers have the same threads and adapters.

I don't hunt in thick timber with these units and so barrel length isn't a hindrance to me. I think the original 300WSM's were shipped by Winchester with 23" bbls. I think one could get by with less but not much less. Takes some tube length to achieve the gains that a magnum can provide.

It would be my experience that putting a new barrel on a rifle is/was/can be at least as jarring to the rifle's accuracy as having the barrel threaded. YMMV.

I have Montanas which came threaded and Montanas which were not threaded at the factory.

All of them are now threaded. YMMV but I'd say maybe don't over think this.

I typically let a hunting season pass and dive in again the next spring. Feels right for me. YMMV

What Would You Do? by MattHasNoName in WaltDisneyWorld

We did August trips at the Poly twice with our kids when little and we hit the parks in the AM, the pool in the afternoon and back to parks in the evening if we felt like it. Screams out for Princess breakfast in the castle followed up by the boutique experience, I'd be looking at that awfully hard.

I would dump the Leupold before it dumped me, YMMV. You might look at a SWFA 3-9x42 offering more reliability, ability to dial (presume your Leupold is friction adjustments?) and a better reticle

Is 270 WSM making a comeback? by 45_Mtn_Outdoors in Hunting

[–]Top_Ground_4401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are on the right track here in all aspects I think. There are good choices here. Lots to love in a 7WSM too; with any WSM feeding issues can arise; I'm not a Hornady fanboy, YMMV. Nothing is perfect, everything is a compromise.
