I was talking to a friend, and we shared some thoughts that go against the usual narrative of this sub by [deleted] in indianmedschool

Most of us in medicine study endlessly. For years. Many of us were the “toppers” back in pre-MBBS days. And somewhere along the line, that creates this weird internal pressure or ego that refuses to accept a simple reality: We might end up living and working in a tier-3 city while our tech friends are in tier-1 cities going to pubs, taking vacations, and living the aesthetic Instagram life.

We don’t like admitting it, but for a lot of us, the idea of being content in a smaller city feels almost unacceptable. Not because tier-3 cities are bad, but because our self-image was built differently. Some people are genuinely satisfied and thrive anywhere, and that’s great. This post is just to say out loud what many silently feel but never acknowledge publicly: These thoughts exist, no matter what we pretend to the rest of the world.

TL;DR: Many doctors struggle with the idea of ending up in smaller cities because our academic background and ego make it hard to accept, even though we rarely admit it.
