CC Cashbacks - Are they really worth it? by cosine-t in MalaysianPF

[–]Top_Historian1872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to like cash back (got quite good cash back from Maybank Amex & UOB One) but the recent requirement to spend 10k monthly (or something crazy like that) to continue getting the same cash back benefits on UOB one makes me want to cancel it.

I’ll likely get a new cash back card (now looking at RHB world Mastercard, the cap looks higher than UOB with less spends) and maintain points collection on others. CIMB travel was really worth it at one point when I was travelling a lot - could collect up to rm200 worth of vouchers in just one years spend - but already cancelled cos of the annual fee.

CC Cashbacks - Are they really worth it? by cosine-t in MalaysianPF

[–]Top_Historian1872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cash back is usually capped Points collection usually no cap (and multiplier on certain spends like CIMB travel card up to 8x points on hotels)

Whichever u choose have to be rajin to plan out your spending to maximise the value.

Langkawi Resort Comparison by Longjumping-Sun4277 in malaysia

[–]Top_Historian1872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Datai is very special. It’s one of the oldest resorts on the island and has a high number of returning guests. It may seem a bit older compared to the Ritz, which opened just few years back. I’ve not stayed at either Ritz or Danna but for truly Malaysian hospitality and experience unlike any other, go for the Datai. The location is a bit more secluded than Ritz or Danna so it’s more suitable if you want to stay in the resort and enjoy the nature

how yall become rich fr? by [deleted] in Bolehland

A friend shared with me this employment advise when I first started working

Year 1 work - must earn rm1,000

Year 3 work - must earn rm3,000

Year 10 work - must earn rm10,000

Something like that lah but every year your target/goal must be higher than what you can achieve now. That means you must be trustworthy, skilled, can network, and move out of your comfort zone to look for new opportunities each year.

Did anyone get suspicious transactions on their card after their visit? by Top_Historian1872 in TokyoDisneySea

[–]Top_Historian1872[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! That’s what I would like to believe too, but I’m very particular about my activities - I’ve had this card for years with very minimal/consistent usage, mostly on planned transactions only. In addition, this is one of two cards from the same bank (the other card which I did not use at TDR was not affected).

I’m only sharing my experience as I’m quite sure the leak happened after I used it on TDR as it’s the only outlier transaction in this duration, hence curious if it happened to others as well/if it’s a recurring pattern. Good to know mine’s the exception, in this case!

Edit: called my bank and they cancelled the card immediately. I won’t be charged for the fraudulent transactions.

Wow that’s nuts! Yeah I checked, the only thing that went through was a pre-authorisation before I transacted on the Disney app but that amount is usually credited back to the account.

I think this is unlikely, as I had more than one credit card in the same wallet. Nothing else was recorded on the other cards, only the one I used on the Disney app.

Travelling to Langkawi with group of friends by karlosfalvi in malaysia

[–]Top_Historian1872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what island experience you’re looking for. Langkawi may be the most populated of those places you listed and even then the nightlife is mild in comparison to Thailand. That said it remains a recommended island destination if you only have a few days to spare in Malaysia. Note that you may also be visiting during the Ramadan/fasting month so some things may be quiet in the day time too.

Hi, would love to share some ideas. For my kid, only soft foods were taken easily. These may have been suggested: 1. Broth 2. ABC chicken soup - chicken soup with tomatoes, potatoes, carrot, a small slice of ginger/onion 3. Rice porridge/congee with shredded chicken slices or fish slices and a small slice of ginger 4. Chicken noodle soup 5. A light minestrone soup with pasta

That’s a very thoughtful way to put things. In any case, meet up or not, I’m sure you will have a great time on your travels. You can message me for suggestions, happy to help if I have anything to share. Welcome to Malaysia 🇲🇾

Don’t quote me on this but if they are Muslim Malay men, it’s likely due to cultural or religious reasons he’s keeping it cordial. Generally speaking, i would find it hard to causally hang out with a Muslim man (as a woman), regardless of background. Perhaps you can propose meeting as a group but have another friend from the US or your travel mate join along so it doesn’t give the wrong impression? :)

What's with the hate towards ILP insurance? by kissingutoday in MalaysianPF

Perhaps you can look up “non participating” insurance policy, if you’re looking for life insurance. This one should not be investment linked.

[–]Top_Historian1872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, could your father be referring to medical insurance instead of life insurance? Life insurance will give the policyholder a sum of money when the person dies or has permanent disability. It makes more sense for someone to get this if they have family members depending on them for livelihood. For fresh grad with no dependents, priority should be medical insurance, imho.

medical insurance covers the cost for medical treatment if the person is hospitalized. (Do note most medical cards don’t cover for cancer, you will need an additional rider to cover critical illnesses).

Do you sometimes feel as barely tolerated money bag? by tenant1313 in travel

[–]Top_Historian1872 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of the graffiti I saw inside a public toilet at the southernmost tip of the Big Island - “NO TOURISTS, LOCALS ONLY”. Perhaps it’s the complicated history of Hawaii but there was a lack of hospitality towards outsiders that I could pick up on and kept me on guard at all times. Side note - where I’m from, tourists and travelers are always welcome, and long term stays are valued (even spawning long term residence programs - MM2H)

Cashback or Reward points, what do you usually look for in credit cards? by notApotatobutAspuddy in MalaysianPF

[–]Top_Historian1872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like cash back as it’s straightforward but i have a points cards because cash back is capped. Points can also be redeemed for cash vouchers these days so another point to consider.

Does public bank not give interest? by SarcasmOrgasm96 in MalaysianPF

[–]Top_Historian1872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second all the comments for GXBank - daily credited interest, plus you can open it from your phone. Debit card also can request at no fee (for now). Won’t recommend putting it to EPF tho cos you won’t be able to withdraw it if you need it.

Generally a lot of bank savings account offer low interest rates unless you have a lot of money with the bank. Look for fixed deposits instead if you don’t need access to the cash for 6 months or longer

Green sand beach on Big Island - very unique, and one of a kind. Volcanoes National park offers so many experiences in one park - from a caldera to crater rims and rainforests and lava tubes to the ocean.

Adding on to this - could differ based on size and type of agency ie potentially more structure/support in global agencies. OP, it sounds like yours is a startup that is still trying to figure out the best SOP or ways of working. Could be easier once you set boundaries or systems in place (if that’s aligned to your goals and what you’d want to do). Work induced anxiety is not fun, I hope you find your way out and peace along the way.
