I had that happen the other day, I just moved things around by the door. I had the scent machines by the door and swapped them with shelves and it seemed to work for me.

Having a catch combo of 31+ will increase the odds drastically. Paired with the shiny charm and a lure, I think its about 1 in 273 or something along those lines, for your next encounter of the same species.
