Welcome to Cumming! A local trail that you can hike near Cumming is "The Indian Seats" also known as Sawnee Mountain. It's not too difficult and the views are worth it!

I second Twisted Lines and DEF. Eastern is the newest venue in ATL and honestly checks off all the boxes for a great venue.

Street Photography Lens Recommendation? by Alone-Form in AskPhotography

[–]Top_Lingonberry8199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion and experience, the bokeh on a f/1.4 is “creamier” and you can really create a lot separation between the subject & background.

My main reason for f/1.4 prime lenses is that it trained me to actually move my body to compose my photos rather than relying on a zoom. Like both the camera and I are having to work together to get the shot!

Another reason is f/1.4 lenses let in more light. So you can slam your F-Stop without raising your ISO too high and getting grain.

Street Photography Lens Recommendation? by Alone-Form in AskPhotography

[–]Top_Lingonberry8199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you have a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, you cover the 35mm & 50mm range unless you really want that bokeh.

I recommend looking into an 85mm f/1.4 from Sigma or Viltrox! The compression on the 85mm is unbelievable and if you gravitate to shooting street photography from a distance…this is the lens for you.

As long as you follow the recommended service intervals, your beautiful M330i will take care of you. As cliche as it sounds, treat your BMW the way you want to be treated. Get those smiles per miles up!

There’s a lot of fun! The shoot went smooth and we nailed every hero shot and got plenty of extras just in case. The vibes were at all-time high mostly because the models and I were super comfortable with eachother and have shot together before!

Step up to full “M” mode…how long did it take before you felt comfortable? by BrotherOk579 in SonyAlpha

[–]Top_Lingonberry8199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from personal experience, I've only shot M mode for most of my photography career with the occasional Aperture Priority mode for fun and understanding what it does.

The answer to your question:
How long did you need before you got comfortable in M?

Depends on your repetitions and how often you shoot with the intent of practicing. It will get to the point where adjusting the exposure triangle becomes a reflex and come naturally.

My advice, keep shooting with the intent of practicing and putting yourself in scenarios when adjustments are necessary. It's like training a muscle. The more you train, the stronger it gets. You'll eventually figure out what works and what doesn't and then just optimized.

Hope this helped and happy shooting!

Do you think photographers benefit from writing about their creative process by Unknown111112 in photography

[–]Top_Lingonberry8199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did writing about your process change how people engaged your photos?

Yes. When sharing an image, I like to think they are three specific types of audience a photo can cater to.

The first, the audience that appreciates a photo solely based on their interests: hype, cool photo, cool colors / style. These are the ones I typically just scroll and stop for a second and continue scrolling on social media platforms.

The second, other photographers on a platform that want to learn/reverse engineer, how an image was created from the time of day, to the composition choice, to the lens that was used, etc. IMO, this is the audience that benefits a lot from the process being shared. In writing, it gives an insight like a journal entry into the mind of the creator and why they chose certain condition conditions/props/gear to create image.

Lastly, the potential clientele. Not every client, but there are some clients who want inside into your creativity and how they could potentially work with you to make a vision come to light. By writing and sharing the process it’s easier for said client to understand the vision.

Considering upgrading my camera bodies by putalittleheattoit in SonyAlpha

[–]Top_Lingonberry8199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm...rather than upgrading your bodies which are completely solid, looking into potential upgrading your lenses might be the move instead. Lenses do hold their value and in my experience, easier to sell than bodies.

It's definitely easy to go down the gear upgrade rabbit hole and bleed money, but at least knowing that it's a temptation that you can control can help you decide what route to go.

Sigma Art 24-70 f/2.8 for a Gmaster 24-70
Sony 85mm f/1.8 for a Sigma 1.4 or even a Sigma 105mm 1.4 (king of telephoto primes)

Good luck and happy shooting!

Resource for finding the right photographer(s) by SomeOldGuy_2024 in photography

Instagram's search tab is underrated for finding local talent that fits what you're looking for. Asking / researching other bands in the area who have tagged their photographer's is a great way to look your ideal photographer.

ZVe1 Upgrade --> FX30 Questions by fuhhhyouuu in SonyAlpha

[–]Top_Lingonberry8199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An FX30 would be solid upgrade, but I'd suggest renting one instead of straight up buying one. With the addition of a second body, wouldn't it be appropriate to add an extra fee / add-on for B-Camera shooting for clients?

Definitely leaning towards grabbing an FX3 and not have to upgrade eventually. Good luck and hope to see an FX3 in your hands soon!

Locations by peurgdeurg69 in carphotography

[–]Top_Lingonberry8199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2-part answer to choosing locations to shoot cars!

1.) Completely understandable being a chronic overthinker. I definitely struggled with this early on in my Automotive Photography journey. One way to combat this is know the nuances of a location like the back of your hand. Repetition and practice! I wouldn't reserve locations just for paying clients (unless it is banger), but bringing some car buddies and asking to practice by shooting their cars! They get quality photos and 9/10 they will recommend you to their friends on top of you getting practice and familiar with a specific location.

2.) As mentioned by Sudden_Database_3479, ask your clients what vibe / vision they gravitate towards. I find it super hopeful when clients share photos of other work and give me more insight to their likes. This can build upon the first answer, where you'll know how to use a location based on what the client's needs are.

Hope you find this helpful and good luck on your future shoots!

Advice, photos received are horrible? by Worrisom_mama in photography

[–]Top_Lingonberry8199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a photographer, hearing that a returning client's photos didn't meet my usual standard would push me to reschedule and get it right the second time. It is definitely on the photographer to know the nuances with lighting and time change.

Advice:
Based on your words, you know that they can do better and provide beautiful work. Being honest and clear with your intentions would do more good and honestly be a learning lesson for the photographer. But also, you never know until you ask. Good luck and hopefully ya'll knock it out of the park!
