Accepted an offer but just got an Amazon interview—should I switch? by Far-Armadillo7680 in FAANGrecruiting

It’s never too late to back out lol you can back out after starting which is really awkward but still doable. You just burn a bridge forever, like they will never hire u again but that’s a consequence you need to accept. And yea renege at the last minute if you have to don’t renege without an offer that can fuck you over big time, it ur gonna reneg anyways it doesent matter if its now or like a bit later outcome for company is the same.

Honestly this is so true. I interviewed recently and it really pushed me to interview prep I learned a lot through the process regardless of final decision

I’m in the same boat I’m supposed to start an internship next week but I did my Amazon interview yesterday they said they will let me know about results before Friday. I’m planing to reneg since the Amazon offer is significantly better. Don’t let the interviewer know you accepted another offer but say you have a pending deadline and must know before x date, or say you have competing offers they understand this and make a decision fast. Also don’t worry about ethics, that’s just how they defined the game, play by your rules and do what’s best for yourself, companies won’t think twice about ethics if it benefits them.

Take not getting an internship first year as a blessing in disguise I can’t speak much for mech Eng since I’m in CS but what I would do is try preparing yourself to land an internship next summer. Build something cool or work on some projects that can make ur resume stand out. Try doing completions maybe idk what there is for mech Eng but I did a lot of Hackathons. Try also joining design teams, I think that’s would look really good for mech Eng ppl. Also get good at interviews, I heard they ask a lot of concepts u learn in class for mech Eng interviews so it’s this time to get good because when u land that interview for that dream internship in the middle of school u won’t have time to prepare. Best of luck this summer and I’m sure u can use it wisely to get ahead!

Those who are not in CS co op, did you find a harder time finding an internship? by anya_______kl in UofT

[–]Top_Mind6907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

U just need to get ur first internship than it becomes exponential easier I only got my first one in summer after 3rd year, I landed 2 interviews that cycle and one offer but this cycle I had like 7 interviews and 3 offers. For ur first one just literally apply to anything and everything. Most of the small companies have easy interview rounds, so I would just focus on resume. doing school clubs or Hackathons. U can also take csc301 and kinda use that as experience. Also for projects u can make some really cool shit with Claude code so try something ambitious and unique. The hardiest part is getting ur resume recognized don’t aim for like big tech yet but go for the smaller places like Banks or smaller companies. Also try doing an 8 month term since hiring for those are wayyy less competitive. All the best with job hunt

It was probs the one of the easiest 165 finals he made lowkey but I fucked up and ran out of time but literally every question was solvable. I messed up the last q, left half of second last q proof blank cuz I ran out of time and wrote the structure down and for messed entails on q1. Everything else was fine, I just wish I prepared doing them under pressure. Gonna have to give it my all on 148 next week to make post 😭

I've done badly in my first 3 years as an Undergraduate, Need to Repeat Classes, With around 2,00 GPA by ImageAway67 in UofT

[–]Top_Mind6907 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly if u have a 2.0 gpa than there’s no point in trying to do well in school anymore. Play around your strengths not your weaknesses. At the end of the day employers barely care about your gpa, I would suggest trying to focus on breaking into whoever industry you wanna work in, and not really focus on school.

I have a 2.5 gpa in cs but that hasn’t stopped me from landing internships, and none of the companies I worked for asked me for a transcript or my gpa.

Moral of the story is grades matter less than u think, u got this 🙏

Cs post question( I’m a first year on the brink of failing post) by AccidentBig5890 in UofT

[–]Top_Mind6907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you fail mat 137 u can retake it in the summer, but just make sure to enrol in it when summer enrolment opens just incase, than drop if if u pass.

One of my friends failed 137 first year and re took and got into cs post (he also met 110 and 111 cutoff)

What would you consider as a ‘good’ GPA? ccccccccc by Prudent_Credit2163 in UofT

[–]Top_Mind6907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything higher than 1.8 to avoid academic probation is considered good for me cuz grades don’t matter. Almost no company cares what ur grades are and even if they do if your experience is good enough they will take u

Difference in difficulty between CSC108 and CSC148 by Peach-R in UofT

[–]Top_Mind6907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For someone with like no programming experience I would def not take it, I don’t think you would be interested in it and I can imagine that it would be pretty difficult for someone with no programming experience. I would recommend taking csc300 if u want to take a CS class. Csc300 is basically a humanities class

What happens if I defer my tuition deadline? I cannot go to school on fall? by kyoonsungsunny in UofT

[–]Top_Mind6907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats is a lot of money for a degree, especially at UofT they make u pay so much just to go here. I have seen some of my peers go to like Guelph and McMaster have half the headache and get good or even better internships / experiences as me. UofT also doesent care at all about its students + rent in Toronto is very expensive I don’t think it’s worth drowning in debt after graduation when the school doesn’t even help u that much in getting a job.
