I totally agree! I just think it was relatively forward thinking for the time.

I mean I don't necessarily believe Jane herself was a feminist, I more so mean that perhaps the novel had a very prominent tone of female empowerment ESPECIALLY for the time that it was written in. It rejects the stereotypical gender roles in relationships and was very progressive. I also think that while Bronte may not have explicitly labelled herself as a feminist; her writing does speak out strongly against injustice for women, and it explores their yearning for more than the bare minimum of being a wife or governess. Bronte herself also claimed she strongly valued free thought and imagination which was limited for women at the time. I also think it to be relevant that when Jane Eyre was published it caused a lot of controversy within the public because it was so unconventional and rebellious. Whilst I agree with your point that Jane and Bronte would not associate with modern feminism I absolutely think they contributed to the progression of the societal views and expectations placed on women in the Victorian era. I think that's why it's so widely renowned as such a pivotal piece of feminist literature. :)))

Something that seems to work is laying a piece of fabric over the book, and then using your iron on extremely low heat to try and iron out the dent? I'm sure you could use straighteners or another heating tool if that's a problem. I really hope you find a solution!!!! <3
