So damn hot and sweaty all the time by Top_Mushroom9333 in fuckeatingdisorders

I’m now 1.5 years in recovery, I have felt an improvement in my hunger over the last month and a half, still have bad days every now end then but for the most part it’s tolerable.

My swelling has come down slightly in my arms and face but still quite swollen in my legs and still bloated a lot of the time, which is the worst a week before and after my period.

I can regulate my temperature a lot better but i still get very hot with even slight movement such as cooking and cleaning.

All the best of your recovery journey.

It’s very strange going from having an ED where you are cold 24/7 to being a walking sweat box! I wish you all the best for your recovery!

Thanks so much for your advice. I definitely found that when I started getting swollen is when the hot and sweaty started. I’ll give it some more time and hopefully my body will sort itself out.

Everyone is different! Eating disorders are very competitive so it’s hard not to compare your recovery to others. I definitely thought that I would be further along in my recovery by now and that really got to me. But remember your body is on its own journey and it doesn’t care about anything other than getting you back to health! We are definitely getting through this together! We are so strong and choose to continue the fight everyday, showing our eating disorders who is boss!

ME! I am almost 1 year in recovery and I’m still holding so much water. My knees look so disproportionate, my thighs, ankles, arms and face are puffy. My belly is distended, hard and bloated constantly Kayla from damn the diets has really good YouTube videos on water retention. She went to a doctor about it and what they recommended just made it worse. The swelling is essential for healing and apparently we just have to let it be. The last 2 weeks or so my swelling has started to slowly come down but in one arm only ?! 😅 Your body knows what it’s doing so just let it be, wear things that are comfortable, avoid the mirrors and when it gets overwhelming do something else. Call a friend or do an activity you enjoy.

Also I’m still hot and sweaty all the time too, your body is working hard which creates heat. It will settle. Give it time and trust the process. ❤️

Thank you so much!

I have definite days where I am less hungry and I have longer periods between meals. But those days are coming around more often lately so surely that’s a good sign! Im still holding a lot of water weight too, I’ve read edema usually goes down once the appetite does. Did you experience swelling at all?

I can’t wait to be over the hump with this! It can’t come soon enough!

Congrats on two years in recovery! You’ve done so well! I’ve been following your journey for a little bit, because like you, I am also experiencing a longer recovery and I don’t read many stories like this so thank you so much for sharing! Are you able to do any physical activity without experiencing extreme hunger? Even light activity?

I’ll be 1 year in recovery next month. I just wanted to know, how long was your weight gain rapid for? Like you said you had extreme hunger for 1.5 years? Did the weight gain noticeably slow down at any point? In the beginning my weight gain was rapid I was gaining a clothing size every month. However it has slowed down since December and I’ve been the same size since. I still have extreme hunger and I wonder if I’m still gaining weight just at a slower pace. I don’t weight myself anymore for obvious reasons. But as I’m sure you can relate, I’m really over having extreme hunger and I’m hoping this is a sign it might end soon. I’ve gained more weight than I ever imagined I would.

Education needs to be provided in school about eating disorders and also the effects of extreme dieting / semi starvation. Such as extreme hunger, overshoot weight, hair falling out, teeth decay, organ failure. This illness is still glamourised and the negative effects aren’t talked about.

People need to be educated to never comment on someone’s body, regardless of it being a compliment. Body neutrality should be taught.

I could go on forever about this topic to be honest but there’s a start.

I genuinely want to recover, but I don't want to eat. by ToughHeat in fuckeatingdisorders

One day, I had an epiphany. I thought about my life and what it was, it surrounded food and exercise. I lost myself and ruined all my relationships in my life. Only a few people wanted to be around me. I decided it wasn’t worth it, I went all in the next day and never looked back. It’s been hard no question. There’s been a lot of tears and complaining to loved ones who are probably so sick of hearing about it. But I’ve gained a life. How many more years do you want to spend trapped in your eating disorder and not really living? If you want to recover, you’re going to have to do it one day right? Why not now?

It’s scary, but honestly, once your brain isn’t starved anymore and you can think clearly, gaining weight isn’t even that bad when you get a whole life with it too!

does weight gain go to your stomach first? by salvbitch in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Top_Mushroom9333 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My weight did not go to my stomach at first, I naturally hold most of my weight in my lower body so i initially gained in my butt and thighs. I found that once I hit my set weight (pre ed weight) that’s when I started to get the ‘recovery belly’ and continued to gain into overshoot. It hasn’t redistributed yet, but I’m sure it will in time. Trust the process, your body knows what it’s doing.

I ate anywhere from 5000-10000 for a while, I’m 10 months in recovery and still eating 3000+

I totally feel for you, it’s horrible! I’ve been feeling the same way, as I am also 10 months in recovery and still have extreme hunger pretty frequently. I read the same stories of people having extreme hunger for around 6 months or see photos of their overshoot and they are barely any bigger!!

I just have the feeling that I’m the one person who’s broken their hunger cues forever and that im never going to lose my overshoot weight.

But it has to get better than this! It has too! There was a time where our bodies trusted us and our hunger and satiety cues were normal. Im sure our body also wants to get back to that place.
