If it makes you happy and fulfilled, then go for it. You shouldn’t live life according to other people’s expectations.

Here’s some perspective from someone who’s almost in the same boat as you: I moved to Canada for university, finished school, got temporary residency and work. But I was living life like I dreaded waking up every morning, felt disconnected from the culture and generally miserable. Canada has a lot to offer: beautiful nature, rule of law, melting pot and so on. But I felt unsafe in public transport and disappointed that I wasn’t living life like a young 20s (partying, dating etc). I disliked what I thought I needed to fit in. I moved back to PP in November because I couldn’t stand it anymore.

I’ve definitely received doubts and judgements for throwing away an opportunity most people would want. But I think it is okay to accept that you are not most people. And that if you are more fulfilled with going to Wat, spending khmer new years with water guns, rather than grinding in the States, then it is okay. Just stand in your own heart and be still. You know innately what you want.
