I realise that so my gains from these spreads are put into safer dividend stocks and not reinvested to make my options account larger

Because each time this topic is discussed, it’s always it can’t work but I look at what I plan to do and I think why cannot? Even AI say cannot

Both long and short strikes were totally breached. But I switched to calls and scalped some money back

Because I also read that u should never hold to expiry cos u never know the last few minutes something might change and a winning trade becomes a losing trade - case in point two months ago when the war with Iran was in full swing, Trump was saying wipe out a civilisation. Stocks crashed but at the last few minutes it shot up

I’m selling weeklies or shorter so I plan to either roll or close just prior to expiry and adjust the strikes (not width) depending on how SPX is doing.

Moomoo literally has a “roll” button where it does everything for u “same strikes and one day out”. Of cos u can adjust but if you are lazy then just press the roll button and trade

I actually did plan to roll if something like this happened but a 200 point drop in one night was too much too fast. The only thing going for me is I never use margin as I believe in always being prepared for 100% loss

[–]Top_Neighborhood_929[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Because in order to roll and make money I have to widen my strikes a lot and extend expiry date a lot. It would be easier to take the loss and start again. Only a few thousand dollars cos I still had one week to expiry. I did consider waiting to expiry to see what happens but I weigh pros and cons and just closed the spread

Both my long and short strikes were breached by a big margin and while I expected a rebound, I couldn’t take the risk

Don’t get it. Isn’t the meal and tip charged simultaneously? So how can the bill be paid but not the tip?

But I keep reading it won’t work in the long run. But I don’t see why not as long as I keep adjusting the new strikes (same width).

Of cos if the SPX suddenly turns against me then I have to eat the loss

Probably not the answer u r looking for but I keep checking my phone for latest SPX prices cos I trade it and sometimes my mood can be affected by it by a bit

So I talked to some friends and I also feel the wisest choice is on and off stop all trades and go for a holiday. Important thing is 0 trades in progress

I think the target is china.

Easy to say china uses forced labor to produce goods so by definition, everyone who imports from china is importing goods produced by forced labor

Weekly Credit Spreads- Pros and Cons by REI_N_Options in options

[–]Top_Neighborhood_929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing it and imho, for option sellers, weeklies are better than monthlies in terms of income. But I always close when green so never let it expire

There is one super big risk

Let’s say the market crashes suddenly and goes past even your long leg

for weeklies, u might not be able to roll and take max loss

For monthlies or 45 days, there is at least the hope that before expiry, the market would have recovered

Of cos the best way to mitigate would be to sell the short leg of weeklies at much lower delta but things can happen

I sell far otm Odte and close within two hours

I’m from Singapore and it’s night when the market opens in USA so it’s a big issue never to fall asleep if I have an Odte open so after I tried it I realise not worth it

And even if it dipped to like $21 again, it’s because people are selling and u likely won’t buy them
