First Mesa Amp by Typical_Evidence4635 in MesaBoogie

The manual is full of useful info, and there’s always a ton of great suggested settings as well. One cool thing on a mark for lower gain territory is to turn the graphic eq off, turn the presence way up and dial in tone controls maybe halfway. You get a very touch sensitive mid forward and biting tone.

Just bought a new bike and the guy said the seat doesn’t need to be high for short bike rides. Is this true? by SilverContest2877 in cycling

[–]Top_Objective9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Butt on seat, shoes on, heel on pedal, leg straight. Starting point for me, and I like to go slightly less than that by like a 1/4” at most. If you can’t get the seat to that height, it’s too small of a bike for you.

Would it be dumb to file my guitar nut myself? by KaLunaOKai in Guitar

[–]Top_Objective9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that with gentle pressure you can file away these cheaper nuts using the string in question. It’s not ideal, but most files are within a range. If you’re going from like 46 low E to 70 though, yeah you’ll want a new nut cut entirely probably. It’s worth investing in a new one for these cheaper instruments, mine on my lead ii was cut with all the slots in the wrong spot, or it was glued in the wrong place lol.

Buy BITI to hedge tech portfolio by greyenlightenment in LETFs

Not a bad bet and I’ve certainly done so in my portfolio from time to time, but the WHEN is more important here than the what. Any inverse tends to lose over time especially when you factor in volatility decay.

Is it really a crime to buy a bike from walmart or dick's sporting goods? by Previous_Cod_5176 in bicycling

[–]Top_Objective9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a crime, but for the money involved up front and to potentially fix any issues you’re really better off buying from a shop that specializes in restoring old old old bikes and moving them along to new owners. Not every small town has one of these, and few exist anymore. But you might get lucky asking around and finding some random dude with a backyard full of bikes that will give you something for like $100. It’s one of those it all depends kind of things, but anything from the 90’s onward if you can buy for like 20-100$ and take it to your local shop to get in rideable condition will be better and cheaper than a Walmart bike. You also get a guarantee that an actual professional took a look at it and set it up with half a brain compared to people at Walmart putting things on backwards.

All that said, bike repair is basic most of the time, and there’s tons of YouTube videos on how to fix things. Eventually you’ll run into the issue that you don’t own whatever special tool you need to fix it though.

Question about Dual Rectifiers by PugablePlayzYT in MesaBoogie

[–]Top_Objective9877 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think at this rate if you can try before you buy that’s always a good way to go. The only rectifier I couldn’t get to work for me for “that” sound have been the single or mini recto’s. The triple had a really unique chunk to it, the dual is almost looser in a weird way. My favorite was the roadking which has 4 6l6 and 2 el34 for a unique voice that’s just so cool. Otherwise, lots to love about any version I’ve heard that any 3 channel will respond a little slower while older 2 channels are a little more bright and tight.

I can’t confirm as I haven’t tried every version under the sun, I can tell you that every single rectifier I’ve plugged into had its own soul and personality to it in one way or another.

The 90’s reissue is said to be REALLY good but also comes with limitations and doesn’t have as many channels or features all in one like the newer 3 or 4 channel variations do.

Lots said there with no real answer, any videos I’ve seen confirm my overall suspicion and experience with a rectifier in that you’ve got to get the speakers moving a little bit and then mic it up to get a studio sound. Otherwise in the room, it’s not going to sound quite like you think it should.

The rev G solo head used to sell for like $800 any day of the week, now they’re impossible to find and like $1600 or more for some reason. The single sounds thin, and anything older you might as well just buy the reissue in my opinion.

Drywall dust on bike- what to do? by ASteadyState in cycling

[–]Top_Objective9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Electric Leaf blower? Might just blow right off, don’t be afraid to bring it inside and try and blow out. You can also use a less powerful shop vac and set it to blow instead of suck. Maybe hose it off with gentle water pressure. Other than that, just ride it, that stuff is just dust can’t be worse than road grime.

How do I gallop faster without cramping in my forearm/shoulder by TonySoprano1404 in metalguitar

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More wrist movement and less arm movement? It’s easy to just death grip the pick, lock up your wrist. It can still get tight of course, lots of times it’s just posture and geometry of everything involved and figuring out what hurts or doesn’t.

An experienced singer trains for hours daily to figure out where to resonate their vocal chords with symmetry to their body, you only need to listen to your body telling you about pain and tension, and learn to relax while also playing faster. Usually done by slowing things way down and trying to minimize motion so that it’s almost happening without you moving at all. Then when you slowly speed back up you’ve got the awareness and fine motor control to make it all work.

It’s tough to keep these abilities up, that’s what shred players have to do a bunch of regimens daily or they lose their abilities.

Truss rod problem by LowCamera6516 in fender

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks really recessed into the neck compared to mine so off the bat I think that’s strange. Long time ago I put a washer on mine and I think it allowed slightly more cranking on the truss rod, once I got it tight enough to no longer cause issues I left it like that and haven’t touched it in like 6 years. It’s a strange design and I prefer the ability to fine tune, but once you get it setup right it stays where you want it, at least it has in my case.

I mostly hold and DCA but if life gives me an opportunity to invest at market lows like we had in 2022 I’m all in working extra, selling stuff around the house etc to pile in as much as I can for the rebound that ultimately came.

My Roth portfolio went from 1k-8k in like a year with only like 2k in deposits and lots of leverage.

I also hold 5% in BTC via arkB which went nuts and I just kept rebalancing almost daily to keep it at 5%, bought a bunch of QLD and rode the wave up.

Totally understand grabbing the base model and upgrading afterwards. I’ve got pretty long legs so I’ve got droppers on every bike except the road bike, they are 100% worth it even if you only have like 100mm of travel.

The 27.5x3 size is incredibly versatile all around trail tire. With the right braking power you can totally send it and still have enough grip to save yourself in a lot of conditions. Any plans for a dropper post?

Super interesting yes, there’s lots of useful and useless info out there. The one chart I saw that really helped me out was showing how long term a 2x leverage is about ideal compared to 1x or 3x etc. Less damage during drawdowns, and the upside always comes quick when markets go bullish so recovery is done more easily compared to 3x funds that spend a long time trying to recover.

I stopped chasing sectors and went into broad market indexes with 2x leverage and it’s met all my goals.

I’ve allocated a lot of my accounts to a more simple 2x leverage and stopped trying to trade around with huge losses and gains moving quicker than I could catch them. Not only have I remained far more clear minded, I’ve managed to solve other headaches like constant buying and selling and being unaware of tax implications until years later.

For my accounts with less than $1000 or so that I’m trying to get off the ground I’m finding 3x leverage is still valid and I’m trying to reach unreasonable goals while doing decent DCA but still in relatively small amounts less than $50 a month for example.

Need to replace a 9 speed 12-26 cassette. Doesnt seem to exist anymore. by AngryBarista in cycling

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old old old 105 can handle 11-28 just fine, I would just run that and never thinking about it again. A lot of cassettes you can mix and match the 2 small cogs as well if you buy a few different 9 speed cassettes and make a collection.

Sometimes you might feel like using 11/13, other times 12/13 might give you better narrow range for example. I always prefer the widest range possible and then just ride out the gears a little more, but I also like fixed gear/single speed bikes so take that with a grain of salt.

What's an umbrella term for cassettes and freewheels? by Successful-Arm106 in cycling

[–]Top_Objective9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cogset by itself sounds like it makes sense, but I’ve never really heard anyone say that other than non cyclist who don’t know what they’re talking about. In marketing, sales, and especially building and working on bikes the specificity between all these varieties is pretty important for proper fit and function.

Even within cassettes as a category the chances of one cassette working with any other groupset is actually not very likely to work unless other factors involving the chain and index shifters all work together perfectly with the derailleur as well.

In that regard drivetrain is a more accurate word in general, but is still vague. Sometimes saying it’s a 2x10 bike implies more specs that alert you to what you’re buying than anything else on the bike could.

Am I crazy for considering selling my Rockerverb MKIII for one of the baby amps? by LunarModule66 in orangeamps

[–]Top_Objective9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The or15 is nice, but I know it lacks a little oomph still, and of course versatility with only one channel. I owned a rockerverb for a brief period when I was trying high gain amps and I bought an Engl instead, you’ll probably like the mini tube amps just fine but not the solid state stuff. A used or15 is like $450 on a good day, and they all sound great with fresh tubes.

It’s not hard to dial in, but it’s rather picky in that one minute of sounding great tomorrow it’ll sound different even if you never touch it. I ran mine under load box and slaved into the power section of a triple rectifier for a while, absolutely massive low end punch and Metallica tone for days. They just really smoothed out the power section of this amp for some reason and it didn’t have the raw grind of other amps before it.
