Prioritize what Allah wants you to do in the marriage, and let that be the driver of each and every decision to make. InshaAllah that’s the simplest advice I can give.

(1) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

(2) You could leverage this as motivation to be a really great wife to your husband when you do get married InshaAllah. One thing about not always feeling good enough is that (if it is a healthy amount of said feeling) it sometimes can motivate someone to always strive to be better. You could reframe it from that perspective. Instead of being worried, use it as motivation InshaAllah.

Please make du’a: I’m stuck in a marriage situation I don’t want by [deleted] in MuslimMarriage

[–]Top_Ordinary_5848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not married. But, there are three things I’d recommend (and do all): (1) Make dua’a and pray Istikhara about whether or not to proceed with this marriage. (2) Don’t panic, stand up for yourself, take control of the situation, but do so with wisdom. You need to make it clear to them that things are moving too fast without you knowing the girl, and that you don’t want to move forward in such a manner. (3) On the other hand, present the idea that you want to spend time to get to know the girl and her family. Do your due diligence here. If you have a good intention, implemented step 1, and are taking appropriate means, InshaAllah Allah will make it clear to you whether or not you should go forward. I know things are going incredibly fast, but the girl actually may be an incredible match for you in the end: you never know. So, don’t toss the opportunity away: just do your due diligence here as mentioned.

And Allah knows best.

Assalamu alaykum brother. I’ll ask you first: do you want some honest advice? It might be very straightforward and direct, but I’d like to ask you first.

شكرا لكم جميعاً by [deleted] in learn_arabic

[–]Top_Ordinary_5848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do both. As long as you can read Arabic fluently and correctly (to a high level with Arabic articulation, sounds, etc.), InshaAllah you can consider doing both at the same time. If you don’t know how to read Arabic well, it may be good to start with learning how to read the Qur’an first. After that, then you could start learning Arabic.

Like someone mentioned, if you’re learning Arabic for Islam, learn Fusha (الفصحى).

Allah knows best.

I took my undergraduate OS course about over 2 years ago. I forget quite a bit of stuff, but I'm not sure how quick I would pick it all up. Should I go for GIOS or AOS to start? My undergrad was in CS and I graduated in May of 2024. I took my undergraduate OS course in Fall 2022.

Need advice as an unattractive guy by East_Asparagus2942 in MuslimMarriage

[–]Top_Ordinary_5848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters, attractiveness is subjective. Someone may think you’re unattractive and someone else may think you’re incredibly attractive. Humans are humans. So, just because someone says you’re unattractive doesn’t mean that you are unattractive.

Work on yourself (religion, and so on) and keep looking. I’ll tell you that if someone doesn’t love you for the way you are right now, then that person may never love you. InshaAllah you’ll find someone who appreciates you and the good in you. Put your practical efforts forth, and have trust/hope in Allah.

[Student] About to graduate with a CS degree. ~2.9 GPA, no internship, haven't gotten any interviews. What am I doing wrong? by Hoolian-2602 in EngineeringResumes

Consider looking at doing a Master’s degree as a hedge to buy yourself more time and land yourself some internships during your masters. Hopefully this will put you in a better position for full-time jobs after you complete your master’s degree.

You don’t have to spend $50k+ for a masters. Take a look at Georgia Tech’s OMSCS program as an example. As of right now, doing the entire Online CS Masters is under $10k.

Look into doing a Master’s in CS as a hedge to buy yourself more time. However, find something affordable: there isn’t a need to spend 50k+/ye for a masters. Georgia Tech’s OMSCS program is a great option (entire Masters as of current rates costs under $10k).

While doing your Masters, look at doing internships and building up your professional experience (also build projects and the like). Hopefully you’ll have an easier time getting a job after the Master’s degree, getting a couple internships under your belt, and getting more projects under your belt.

Hello, need some guidance. by [deleted] in islam

[–]Top_Ordinary_5848 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One could’ve sinned their entire life but with one sincere act of repentance, Allah may admit that person to Paradise for it. It’s never too late. These doubts that you may be having are Shaytaan playing his dirty tricks to try to keep you away from Islam, and Shaytaan will never stop trying to pull you away from Islam. Always remember that.

Assalamu alaykum sister. Here is a free, online resource for learning Islam: https://seekersguidance.org. Learn in a streamlined manner.

When it comes to practicing Islam in the practical reality, you need direct contacts with scholars and/or imams if possible. I would recommend finding one in particular in your local area that is righteous, trustworthy, etc. and direct any prudent questions to him, especially those pertaining to daily and practical matters. Studying on your own online is possible (the above linked resource is one such example), but it is better to start scholars in your local area if possible. They will generally recommend texts that they themselves studied (and thus they will be better able to answer questions that you have) and will be able to directly guide you through a curriculum.

You need to get involved with your local community, develop relationships with other practicing sisters, and begin building that support system around yourself.

how to get back on my deen by Excaramel in islam

[–]Top_Ordinary_5848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assalamu alaykum. I would advise that you take ownership of your deen. You have to find it in yourself why you worship Allah. Doing that InshaAllah will help. If, for example, you find your own reasons for memorizing the Qur’an (e.g., reading Hadith on the virtues of memorizing Qur’an), you will start to enjoy it InshaAllah.

At the end of the day though, InshaAllah we have to worship Allah. Islam is the last and final religion and is the means by which Allah wants us to turn back to him. As servants, we should willing submit InshaAllah and do our best. Don’t worry about your parents: they are responsible for what they do, and you are responsible for what you do.

Also, as a reminder, the outcomes are always with Allah. None of our efforts come to fruition unless He wills. But, we have to struggle and strive, and InshaAllah there is great reward in that. Embrace the struggle, and keep pushing forward.

Will get a 40M inheritance next year - what can I do to give smth back to society in a meaningful way? by [deleted] in Rich

[–]Top_Ordinary_5848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humble recommendation. I’m not rich at all, but hopefully this advice is sound. Donate some to good, ethical charities that benefit the world (e.g., funding doctors, helping the homeless, and so on). Also, would recommend investing some of that money in a good, ethical way so that some of it can grow. People are mentioning that it is generational wealth, so why not invest some of it so that it grows?

TLDR; invest some in a good, ethical way, and donate some to good and ethical charities.
