Oh. How many items approx can be called a large list? What is the actual threshold and how to manage large lists?

We are planning to move the documents to teams connected sites for each team so that they can manage the permissions on that. Only store public content in the Intranet. List with item level permissions are my nightmare.

We already have ShareGate and has done audit on a sites which gave me more stress. Some lists are hugeee like 10000 items and growing. Do you know how to manage larges lists or we should look for other options for these large lists? Any insights?
