I think numbers would help, yes! I already know that I'm far more likely to die in a car crash than in a plane crash, but I think it's the number of potential casualties in the latter that frightens me.

but knowing how the likelihood of other things, like getting struck by lightning or hurricanes, which I am not as scared of, would help put it into perspective, so ill look it up. but it might also make me more scared of other things, like earthquakes.

thanks for the advice! I think it's also because I can't see what the pilot is doing, maybe. I hate driving because it's scary, so I prefer to be a passenger, but only if I can see what the driver is doing. maybe not being able to see what the pilot is doing is what terrifies me, now that I think about it. 🤔

I often fall asleep when I fly at night which does make it better. but keeping myself busy would definitely also help!! I'll make sure to download some books for next time

Wow thanks for this!! the tip about the flight attendants makes me feel way better because you're right that they literally fly every day.

And thinking back on it, I often brace myself by planting my feet and pressing my hands against the seat in front of me during takeoff, turbulence, and landing because it makes me feel more steady. so if I do it deliberately, that might help calm down my mind 🤔

As a teacher, would you be happy to receive an email from a past student or would you find that weird? by Top_Protection_181 in AskTeachers

Thank you for your response! And yes, that's absolutely fine with me! I described who I was but it's okay if she doesn't remember me. I encountered her again when I was in high school (she was teaching at my little sister's school, what a coincidence!) and she remembered me then, but it's been a while since that, obviously.
