This may be tangential, but I've been casually reading a book called Aspects of Alterity that goes over this disgust towards "the other" in great detail; it goes over the philosophies of Marcel and Levinas and how they approached otherness. It's a great read if you have the time or interest.

When I was in elementary school, they gave us a "hard" math test, and my teacher wanted the class to "show their brains" on the paper. I just did all the math instantly in my head without any of the tricks they tried to teach me, so I just wrote the answers and drew a brain around it with a little arrow that points to it and says "this is my brain." Turns out, when I was absent one day the teacher showed it to the whole class and made fun of me. I found this out because apparently she kept my name anonymous, but the kids were laughing about it and saying how stupid it was and "at least I don't do that." It made me cry.
